Attached is the latest information from yesterday morning 10.00 AM NL time. It is clear that the organization is failing again. No Certificate of Entry is awarded so no one can go to Phuket and it's another “pipe dream”.

I just canceled my hotel and am going to switch my flight to BKK to be locked up in an ASQ for 14 days with millions of potentially infected around me.

Even Airasia has canceled its direct flights between CNX and HKT, my wife was due to take that flight on July 1st to serve the eased custodial sentence with me at a resort with a total of 6 PCR tests for both of them.

Even the formal information that Thais with a domestic flight to Phuket only have to have an antigen test that had to be taken 7 days in advance, turns out to be incorrect. Airlines don't take them except with a PCR test that is taken within 72 hours (THB 1800 this morning, so wasted money).

The military can't even organize this.

    Yes, it's sad.

It's 1 big mess. Nobody seems to know about blowing or blowing because everything is constantly changing. For PCR test you really have to go shopping because the prices differ greatly in the hospitals. Some charge 1800 baht and others up to 4000 baht for the same test in Chiang Mai.
I have already been to the hospital twice for vaccination at the agreed time and were sent back each time because there was no vaccine available. One big mess….

Last week in Hua Hin paid 5200 bath for PCR test in Bangkok Hospital !

      • Marc says up

I don't understand why you all go to private hospitals for such a pcr test and pay a lot of money
Just go to state hospitals Max 1800 thb

      • Rob says up

At Bangkok hospital in Phuket costs 3500 baht.

Hasn't it been clear for some time that the Embassies cannot issue a CoE because the regulations have still not been published in the Thai version of the Government Gazette, and that the Netherlands is still on the Thai list of ineligible countries? This is regularly reported here on Thailandblog.

    • Dennis says up

You don't really want to blame the Dutch traveler for the chaos within the Thai government and government, do you?

For a long time there has been talk, yes even promises made to open Phuket on July 1. But because publication in the Royal Gazette is not forthcoming, and that publication must really be done by the Thai government, hotels cannot issue a confirmation (necessary for CoE), embassies cannot issue a CoE, because it is not yet official. And the traveler cannot book anything, because nothing is certain.

Who wants Phuket to open? The Thai tourism sector or the visitor? I think the former as most of the visitor want to avoid Thailand in and ASQ for some reason. For the beach you better go to Ameland. So in the end it is purely for the benefit of the Thai tourism sector and the government, which is now simply failing.

      • Cornelis says up

Am I not blaming anyone? Where do you get that from? I just point out that it has been known for some time that the embassies cannot yet start the procedure.

        • Cornelis says up

Incidentally, NL is still on the list of high-risk countries. This list is dated June 16 and is updated on the 1st and 16th of the month.

      • willem says up

Sorry, but if you take initiatives yourself before something is official, only based on social media and new messages about plans. Then I really think this is up to you. Of course, Thailand is late in formally announcing the opening of Phuket on July 1. I expect that it will only be possible to apply for a CoE based on the so-called Sandbox at the beginning of next week. No Dutch person can apply for a CoE for Phuket before July 1, because the Netherlands is still a high-risk country similar to an international one until this week. So it really didn't work. From July 1, the Netherlands may be on the Thai list as a medium. These are updated every 2 weeks. The latest version was dated June 16.

My advice. Do not do anything without up-to-date information from the embassy.

  3. Cornelis says up

Correction: 'have been published' should of course be 'has been published'.

We were already busy sorting out sha+ hotels and the anticipation, but the day before yesterday out of sheer hopelessness we canceled the flight with KLM on July 7 to Phuket (the next day we received the full amount back on account from KLM!!). Yesterday NL on yellow instead of red on the world map, but the pcr tests, CoE ambiguity and 2 unvaccinated children, who "float" around Phuket in uncertain circumstances, are no prospect for a nice, carefree holiday.Jammerrrrrr..

    • Eric B.K.K says up

I would (and I say this with all due respect) absolutely not bring children to Thailand at this time. I don't know your background, but I can sense from your words that it would really be a pure holiday (“.. busy sorting out sha+ hotels and the anticipation”).

The situation is so very uncertain.. what if you and your partner in Thailand test positive?? Or 1 of you?? The PCR test has proven to be unreliable. You shouldn't think about it.. And then with children (vaccinated or unvaccinated is not even relevant to me).

Or what if there is an unexpected outbreak on the island? If the number of infections rises above 1 in 90 week, the thunder will start again. I follow Thailandblog and The Thaiger (website, YT) and absolutely advise against traveling (with children).

Europe is slowly opening up again, there are plenty of beaches here and Southern Europe is longing for Dutch people. It seems like a better option to me. My 2 cents.

      • Liam says up

Eric, I agree, but grandma and family also live there (neighboring province) and were unable to visit last year. I thought 2 weeks in Phuket out of 6 weeks in total was manageable. The obstacles that will now apply make it all too difficult and uncertain. It's always so nice and relaxed there, but hey, hitting yourself in the coconut doesn't help either 🙂

If you have money, a ticket to the moon with Jeff Bezoss is arranged faster, I read somewhere. Could be just like that.
You must have a very good reason to want to travel to Thailand. And don't get me wrong, of course you can.
But this whole Thai policy has nothing to do with opening up to tourism. Like you probably, I've been following all those opening plans for various destinations for a long time now and it seems like the chaos that is being created keeps pace with the increase in infections. For me, there is despair now that it is becoming increasingly clear what financial damage the country is suffering from the absence of tourism. This is becoming noticeable in all corners of society. going to last forces the government to do something.
We can read what this yields every week on various social media. The will is there, but the government and all its branches cannot deal with this never-before-experienced situation.

  6. Cornelis says up

It has now been announced that the CoE procedure for the 'sandbox' will open on June 28 at 12:07.00 Thai time, ie XNUMX:XNUMX in NL/BE.

    • Joost A. says up

Info for the interested Belgians among us (including 1 test on departure and actually 3 on site!): https://www.thaiembassy.be/2020/07/09/info-for-non-thai-nationals-traveling-to-thailand/?lang=en

Unfortunately, no update yet on the site of the Thai embassy for the Dutch.

    • Dick41 says up

      Cornelius,
an application for CoE will take at least 3 days, but can also take 14 days, so forget about the Sandbox opening soon. I hope that the generals will be a joker at Phuket airport next Thursday, but it is a pity for the population and commerce that again have nowhere to go.
      Regards,
      Dick41

Bit of a strange story. KLM will not fly directly to Phuket until October. How can you have already booked for July 7???

    • Cornelis says up

Indeed. KLM offers this flight, but the Bangkok – Phuket route is flown with Bangkok Airways. Because there is no transit option (yet) on BKK, this means that the traveler must be quarantined in Bangkok. You wouldn't get a CoE for the 'sandbox' with this ticket, I'm afraid.

    • liam says up

Dear Gerard, it concerns a flight with a transfer in BKK that I was able to book in April, at the risk that it could not take place. At that time there was still talk of a corridor on Suvarnabhumi for transit to Phuket. Since then, many variants and restrictions have passed in review. but we will not wait any further because we no longer expect a more favorable turn on all the conditions set.
      Do you know.

  8. Theo Groenewegen says up

People who delve into the matter know that only travelers from low and medium risk countries are admitted. The Netherlands is not included in this.

  9. Marcel says up

So shortly before 01 July I didn't take any chances to use the Sandbox either
Considered it for a while, but the costs turn out not to be much cheaper at all.
Have now obtained a NON-O in 3 days
Insurance in 10 minutes (by the way, you must already have it when you apply for a visa) 7400 baht/90 days
Hotel for 28.500 baht with a deposit of 5700 baht ready in 1 day with confirmation
Qatar airlines booked in 10 minutes through DOHA
COE now received within 3 days (including PRE approval)
Departure 07 July and do a PCR test 72 hours before departure

If I had taken the Sandbox, I would be cheaper in terms of hotel costs, but you do have to
    – Pay for your own food 3 times a day
    – 3x PCR Test a 3000 baht to be paid out of pocket
    – Flight to Phuket and back to Bangkok

All in all I am “cheaper off” in my 2 weeks ASQ
Of everything 3x a copy in your pocket and to be sure 2x :"proof" of full vaccination

I also hesitated to go to Phuket and have wife and daughter come there.
But after all the uncertainty and putting everything in order, made the same decision as you.
Departure July 5 with KLM, would like a direct flight.
I also feel that my choice is cheaper and better off.
Do my PCR test on July 3 in Amsterdam at Medimare.
Stay at Amaranth Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel.
Am planning to convert my visa into a year extension.

I live in Phuket. You need to vacation here again
want to come. Lots of rain in Phuket in the coming months,
Everything is closed and bankrupt, test 5 times at 100 euros each time,
special hotel ASH+, Covid insurance and CoE.
Then you will experience the most crappy vacation after that.

Please go to Spain or Greece.

I'm coming to the Netherlands next month and I'm going to enjoy it
    vacation to Spain.

Have fun (but not in Phuket or Thailand)

    YES

    Some people never learn.
And yes, the Thai government is making a mess of it…but is that new information?

People want something, read on Twitter that something is possible and then spend money...

Just wait until everything has crystallized and only then take action. It's not difficult, but always fighting the dead end usually costs a lot of money and energy.

I also don't understand that some parts of the country remain locked while the number of victims is usually less than the road deaths per week, but yes, that's life here.

  12. John D Kruse says up

Everything has already been said about this.
But indeed I had already read for 2 weeks or a little longer that the Dutch would not be welcome in the sandbox.
Now I normally live in Thailand since 2008, but took the opportunity to go to my still unsold house with sound studio in Spain on March 17. Anyway, there was a lot going on after 1 year and 3 months in Thailand. What surprised me then was that I came from Thailand to Europe without a PCR test because Thailand was supposed to be safe? I knew better but didn't complain about it even though it was factually incorrect information. Thailand may not have been red, but it was solid orange. For Spain I only needed a QR test that could be requested for free. Now I would like to return in mid-August to the girl, 4 dogs and 1 Spanish cat. Can't even serve the quarantine at home, but have to... curse, for the hefty price of 40000 thousand baths incl. expensive taxi trip to the Ambassador Hotel in Jomtien to serve those 14 days there. With indeed three PCR tests and three meals a day. While I already enter with a Spanish PCR, with a free EU QR certificate of my two Pfizer vaccinations that can be scanned by them. It's pure money grab. Let's just say theft. I still have to be careful that I don't get infected by a Thai and then pass it on again.
    What stupidity! John D Kruse.

Why do you think the mass protests in Bangkok are getting bigger and bigger since yesterday.
If the current management team only knew how the Thai Jan think modally about them, I would have taken the haze path by now.
An elderly Thai woman is on TV today after a question from a journalist, are you not afraid of Covid, she replied, I'm more afraid of not being able to get food later, what do I have to live on.
Before long the kettle is boiling.

Such a shame, we have been traveling through Thailand with great pleasure for 40 years.
Of course also with some lows, but for us the culture and life is always a reason to go back.
Such a shame for all those nice unknown friendly little hotels and local local guides who are doing their very best to make their money in a good way and desperately need it.
There is a lot wrong in Thailand, but where is it 100%, we hope for the ordinary Thai that it normalizes and democracy returns a bit.
    Buddha is still busy there.

  15. Gerard says up

The Dutch cannot yet obtain a CoE for Phuket. Together with Poland, it is the only 2 European countries on the high risk list.
