Reader Submission: Covid 19 and Other Viruses
Many of the 'oldies' among us have experienced viruses before. It will remain unclear for some time why it spreads more in one country than another.
We travel much more and easier, that used to be different. Yet the whole world was infected. For me (us) the Asian flu 1957/1958 and the Hong Kong flu 1968/1969 and the swine flu in 2009. Mers and Sars were relatively small.
The Asian flu and Hong Kong flu claimed many victims, more than 1 million. But at that time there was not much travel. Go even further back, before our time, in 1918/1920 there was the Spanish flu with 40 million victims. How did that spread around the world? That is the question for now.
Does the heat have to do with the fact that it is less here in Thailand? Singapore Malaysia also have their infections.
Okay, it keeps being careful but just keep doing it. Soon we will travel to Bali. Last week I was in the Makro in Mahasarakham, where your temperature was neatly measured before you were allowed to enter.

It is not that people do not know why corona is spreading more in one country than in another country. Italy is now known that the government in particular has responded too late to the first report. As a result, the Italian patient Nul, among others, was not found. Negligence, certain checks not carried out, symptoms not recognized in time, these are pretty much the causes of the major outbreak in Italy. It does mean that other countries then reacted more alertly. Incidentally, we must continue to put the outbreak in good perspective: look at the numbers if you take Italy separately. Furthermore, the situation in China and South Korea seems to be stabilizing. The oil war between the Saudis and the Russians is now taking over the news.
The question of how the Spanish flu could spread around the world has long been known. WW1 is the main culprit. The Spanish flu started in the USA, in a large overcrowded recruit camp in Kansas.
So many recruits were needed that the barracks could not accommodate the men and many also slept with many in tents. The winter was harsh, so they huddled together to keep warm. Chickens and pigs roamed around the camp to feed the men. The virus ended up in pigs and jumped to humans. These recruits were shipped en masse to the front in Europe in overcrowded ships. Many died before the ship's arrival. This is how it spread through Europe.
The English fought at the front with many soldiers from their commonwealth areas and colonies. Also those if they survived the front were the spreaders on other continents.
Some characteristics of the Spanish flu: the name was derived from press coverage in Spain, this country was neutral in World War 1, so that this flu went down in history as the Spanish flu.
The flu was extremely deadly, estimated victims 50 to 100 million, birth registration was not or hardly developed in some parts of the world, although there were many victims, think of India for example. The vulnerable group for the Spanish flu were people in the age group of 18 to about 45 years. At this age you have a good and mature immune system. That caused an overreaction to the virus and that was fatal for many in this age group.
I don't want to alarm anyone, but this virus did not care about climate differences, occurred deep in Alaska, tropical Africa and South East Asia and Australia, with the same deadly consequences.
So if the infections in Thailand remain so low with this Corona virus, while the borders remained open for a long time for everyone and everyone and for a large part still are, this may be called "The miracle of Siam" in the future, I may this prediction of course come true, but yes…..
Fun…
„neatly measured“. ….
die persoon die meet krijgt via ogen en andere aangeraakte delen het virus en verspreid het dan gewoon heel de dag .
At Siam Paragon there is a tent with Otop products, I refused the ear measurement and just kept walking
Of course, the person in charge of the control just continued to infect the person behind me.
And they let me walk around unhindered, grab things and go outside again.
Then I entered Siam paragon… there are three jaams standing by a heat sensitive camera peering at a screen… football??? I walked right behind a group of about 9 students who, as a group, couldn't possibly all come into view one by one. So neither do I.
With the just purchased bottle of cool water in my hand it would be a wrong outcome anyway.
In short, everything is done for the eye.
It seems obvious to me that with the Thai Wai instead of 'shaking hands' and/or kisses as a greeting, the virus is not passed on so quickly anyway.
In addition, (the vast majority) of the Thai people are very hygienic - that will also help.
50 cases in Thailand? They lie they burst!!! Italy has locked down the whole country, no one in or out. The Netherlands and other countries register new cases every day and here the counter remains at 50? Whoever believes that, also believes the following. I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn USA
No, they are not lying, but they are 50 corona patients diagnosed by the official test. What is not told there
a. no test is administered in many hospitals (sometimes because it is not available); ignorance is bliss.
b. the doctor prescribes some medicine and says everything will be fine;
c. the test is even not recommended because it is expensive and the insurance does not pay for it.
Not a fabrication but the practice of a student in my faculty.
Indeed Chris. Indonesia was also not lying when they insisted until a few days ago that there were no Corona infections. There was simply no testing…,…
I totally believe you Chris.
But maybe that's also the best way to deal with the virus instead of all those panic states. Just let the virus circulate so that eventually a large residence is created among the population towards the future.
The fact is, both with Corona and with a "regular" flu, the majority heals.
The weather has been bad in the Netherlands for weeks. Also today rain, wind, inclement. So there are a lot of sniffling coughing spluttering people walking around. They have a cold or flu, as was the case in recent years, both in spring and autumn. Of course none of that is corona, and why should you test all those people or ban them from going out in public? When the sun has broken through again in a few months and the corona madness balance is drawn up worldwide, science will wonder why there was so much panic instead of accuracy. China is the prime example of what happens when orders are made with denial. Italy is the example when the population behaves casually. A subsequent virus outbreak will have to be contained immediately. Let's hope governments have learned their lessons.
Coughing and sniffling Thai people walking around in Thailand around this period may have a completely different cause than coughing and sniffling people in the Netherlands around this period…
I mean in Italy
Did you know that on March 10, 2020 (in 1 day) 164 people died, only due to Corona contamination?
I mean in Italy
In Thailand people don't shake hands and they don't kiss public, good against the corona virus!!!
