Looking at houses from readers (4)
In 1998 we had the opportunity to buy a piece of land in Bang Saphan (Patchuap Kirikhan) about 100 meters from the beach. The construction costs in 2001 were 75.000 guilders for a two-storey house with a roof of glazed tiles. Necessary in my opinion due to the proximity of the sea (and therefore salt).
We selected a house in Bangkok based on various models and had it built under supervision in Bang Saphan.
Afterwards, have a house built for a lady who supervises; then expanded with a swimming pool at the rear.
The vegetation in the garden is lush and lavish, here you will be honored for your gardening work.
Together with my wife we live here during the winter period.

Dear Lex,
My sincere compliments for the beautiful and stylish house.
Totally my taste.
Small question: did you build the house with single-brick or double-brick exterior walls due to a cool indoor climate.
Wishing you a lot of living pleasure.
Jan
Dear Jan,
We had the house built "single bricks", as on the construction drawing. We keep it cool in the house with a Thai solution: we have planned four Pimphet trees on the south side. High with lots of leaves. As a result, no direct sunlight on the house.
Clear away a lot of leaves, because they fall all year round.
Dear editor,
perhaps the following article will be of interest to readers who are interested in Dutch structures. I found it in today's "Architectural review," but it was a reprint from five years ago. It concerns a fantasy construction in Chantaburi with Escher associations by a Thai who graduated in Rotterdam.

Magnificent!
Beautiful house. Beautiful style. My wife and I have a spacious ground floor bungalow. Which I enjoy living in. But……. I have noticed that Thais, and also my wife, think that a house with one floor has status. Even if the total living area is smaller. My wife reminds me of that sometimes. “Hey look, that's a nice house”, she says. “yes indeed, but it's smaller than our house”. But that doesn't matter in her eyes, it has a floor.
Building with one floor mainly has to do with the price of land, many Thai houses are built here on 50 square meters and then you are almost obliged to build with one floor. Because, taking into account my age (65), I do not have a house with one floor. stairs, I opted to build a low-rise building and pay a little more for a larger piece of land. I have only had positive comments about my house and I am satisfied with it. And my wife is very happy with it.
I would like to compliment you, because you did a fantastic job and so tastefully and for such a sum it is extraordinary. My wife and I want to build something or renovate something existing around Chiang Mai. I sincerely hope that it could still be this beneficial. I wish you a nice winter. Kind regards, Proy and Huub
