Finally payment of D trips

December 13 2020

I already wrote two previous posts on D-travel about the refund of my ticket after flight cancellation.

After a very extensive e-mail exchange, I really came to a dead end with D-reizen at the beginning of this month. They kept saying that payment could only take place in 15 to 16 weeks because they were so busy with the repayments. I took that as an excuse and didn't want to accept it. Was also afraid that I would lose my money in a bankruptcy; at that time the Dutch government had not yet made its later proposal to provide the travel industry with loans to be able to pay out the vouchers (not stated whether this could also concern individual tickets).

I consulted a lawyer friend on this and he responded as follows:

Summons quickly and go to the subdistrict court judge? The misery is that (for a claim of more than € 500) you now have to pay no less than € 231 in court fees. Plus the bailiff's costs for issuing the summons, so say an investment of € 300.

We could make that summons together, so it costs nothing. But pre-financing so much does not seem sensible. It is true that you will get these costs back if you win, but in the event of bankruptcy you would have incurred costs at the house of death.

I also have good experiences with the Disputes Committee, but it would be a somewhat improper way, because D-Reizen does not deny that it owes money, but simply does not pay… So if you “win”, you have nothing yet.

Have you thought about publicity yet? Cash register or Tros-Radar?

I have indicated to D-reizen that I am not giving up yet and that I have now sought legal advice and will keep them informed of any further steps.

Coincidence or not, but two weeks later, December 10, the amount due was deposited into my account. So that chapter is closed and has been a good lesson for me.

    Well,

I think for everyone, NEVER, but NEVER again, book a ticket through a travel agency or online site.

As far as I know, there are no individual tickets under this arrangement. The guarantee fund is then also not applicable.
In my experience, you should buy your tickets from a reliable airline. They have more reserves, so less chance of bankruptcy. Take KLM as an example. Moreover, they have a reputation to uphold. If you book directly with a company, you have to go after your money in case of problems. The blog is full of problems.
If you book through a reliable travel agency, they should arrange the refund for you. As indicated earlier, for a few tenners you can take a lot of work off your hands. With me, 2020 flights to Bangkok were canceled in 3, booked at a TUI travel agency, with tickets at Eva Air. Neat, refunded to the last cent. No misery on my roof for those few cents.

    Gr Peter.

I have a somewhat similar situation, but with Gate 1. I have booked several flights with Gate 1 in the past, to my complete satisfaction. Also now my return flight Bkk - Ams, departure August 11, 2020. The return flight was canceled by Emirates and I was duly informed of this fact by Gate 1.
One comment did surprise me and that was that Gate 1 would check with Emirates if I was eligible for a refund. That seemed like an empty statement to me since the consideration could not be provided by Emirates, so that the agreement is legally dissolved. But yes, just wait and see since we are dealing with the Corona problems. In addition, Gate 1 stated that due to the rush, it would take at least 4 months to settle the case. The day before yesterday, I finally took up the pen and via a detour, the online contact form for upcoming flights, an extensive email to express my displeasure. Contact with Gate 1 is otherwise impossible or impossible.
I immediately received a message back that Gate 1 had sent me a voucher via email on August 19 and that, because I indicated earlier that I still had not received a message, I had to check my spam or teclame box and that for Gate 1 my file was closed.

An answer from Gate 1 that makes no sense since I read my mail every day and after reading it, irrelevant mail is deleted and relevant mail is archived by me.

As I mentioned earlier, I have booked flights in the past and never before has an email from Gate 1 ended up in my spam box, not even now. The mail sent to me by Gate 1 has always been delivered to my regular hotmail inbox.

Today, again via the aforementioned online contact form, I sent out an email. In this e-mail I request Gate 1 kindly, but urgently, to refund the amount paid and to send me a copy of the e-mail with the voucher.

    To be continued.

If there are still people who have booked through Cheaptickets or Schipholtickets and have nowhere to go (like me at the time), you can contact Otravo. Otravo sells tickets through booking sites such as Cheaptickets that are located in Spain (or other countries) and make all possible ways of contact impossible. At the time I was able to get my money back through Otravo with a lot of pain and effort, I had booked through Cheaptickets but couldn't get in touch with them anymore. Could be that Gate1 is also part of Otravo, but I don't know.
In any case, I learned my lesson myself and as mentioned many times: from now on only book directly through the airline!

We had waited exactly the same via d travel from June 2, 2020 and finally the world amount of 345 euros return at the beginning of December. After a lot of emails and promised payments
