Here is the experience with applying for a new Dutch passport dated 16 May 2016 in order to have the visa from the old passport transferred to the new passport in time.

The Embassy address is 15 Ton Son Alley/Soi Ton Son, Lumphini, Pathum Wan, Bangkok, which is at the rear of the Embassy, the front is no longer used as an entrance.

Supplied by me:

  • Passport application form (downloadable from the Embassy's website).
  • Copy of personal page of current passport (have the original for inspection).
  • Copy of the last year extension Visa OA (have the original for inspection).
  • Copy of the last 90 days of address notification (have the original for inspection).
  • Passport photo that meets the very strict requirements, head straight, not too small, not backwards or forwards, uniform background, etc., see the website of the embassy (a good passport photo can be taken opposite the entrance of the embassy, unfortunately this office is only open from 9 am, while the embassy opens at 08.30:XNUMX am).

Everything in singular, contrary to what is requested at the top right of the application form.

The copies do not need to be signed, there is no need for a copy of a Tabien job or any other proof of a residential address. Also read the Checklist on the website of the embassy for special cases.

A photo is taken at the entrance, you get a visitor pass and you are scanned, a friendly person is waiting for you at the entrance and gives you a serial number, it was very quiet, someone came in regularly, but also almost immediately their turn . Friendly, helpful and very good Dutch speaking Thai lady checked the papers, then another photo is taken, the previous and this photo are not scanned for the passport, the left and right index finger are scanned and you place a signature that is transferred to your passport .

You can already pay for the statement that Immigration asks of you, which shows your old and new passport number and that the new passport has been issued by the Dutch embassy in Bangkok. According to the embassy, Immigration has become very strict about this, my Immigration Office demands this. When you pick up or send your new passport, that statement is immediately available, costs Thb 1.050, costs passport Thb 4.490.

You can choose, pick up the passport or have it sent to you. If you choose to pick up, you will be called as soon as the passport is available, if you cannot call, you will receive an email. If you choose to send, you must provide a self-addressed envelope with Thb 650 in stamps, both are available in the photo shop opposite the entrance.

Surprising, new and nowhere read or heard before, you can choose a regular or a passport with more pages. This thicker passport is intended for people who travel in and out of countries very often and receive a lot of visa stamps, etc. in their passport, partly because the passport is now valid for 10 years.

Contrary to what the website of the embassy in Bangkok says, there is no track and trace of the progress of your passport application, that is, not yet implemented.

Very important for people with multiple nationalities! Your new passport is valid for 10 years, you will receive an Important Information letter stating that you can lose your Dutch nationality if you do not have your main residence in the Netherlands or the EU, have multiple nationalities and are of age. So it is and..and..and .., for Dutch people with only the Dutch nationality no alarm, for the partners sometimes it is!

This loss can easily be prevented if you apply for a new passport in good time, so apply for a new passport before the expiry date!

Later the experiences of a partner with dual nationality.

Remember, in the canal in front of the Embassy we saw both a hefty Python and Alligator!

I myself live in Germany and just last Friday I went to the Netherlands for a new passport. The application form asks if you have multiple nationalities. Upon inquiry, this will not affect the issuing of a Dutch passport.

Peter, this isn't always the case.
If you apply for your new passport in the Netherlands and live there, it makes no difference. Apparently if you live in Germany like you don't either.
But… if you are Thai, living in Thailand and you have dual nationality, it can sometimes be problematic.
I won't go into too much detail here, but if you are Thai and you also have Dutch nationality, then it may be that if you apply for a new Dutch passport in Bangkok, the position is taken that by obtaining your Dutch nationality you have lost your Thai nationality, according to Thai law. But that legislation is not implemented by Thailand and Thailand is not interested in it.
The source of the acquisition of your Dutch nationality may determine whether or not you should have renounced your Thai nationality.
For example, at the time of acquiring your Dutch nationality you are married to a Dutch national, then according to Dutch and Thai legislation you do not have to renounce your Thai nationality and it should not pose a problem. In other cases sometimes yes, in case of rejection do not despair, object and seek professional help, then it can still work out.
The point is that the Netherlands actually wants to get rid of dual nationality and has that as its goal. The strange thing is that if you have Dutch nationality and another nationality, that other nationality is no longer included in the GBA, I have forgotten the new name.
There will soon be a report on the application for a new Dutch passport by a Thai woman who also has Dutch nationality.
If there are people who have experiences with a rejected application, report it on Thailandblog so that others know how to deal with it.

Peter in addition, if having multiple nationalities would not have any influence on your new application for a Dutch passport, why are the relevant questions on the application form?
Why then do you receive the letter with the Important warning that you must apply for your new passport in time if you have multiple nationalities?
If you do not have multiple nationalities, the Netherlands will not make you stateless due to international rules, but your Dutch citizenship can be deprived of you if you have multiple nationalities, so a consequence of your answers to the relevant questions?
So the questions are relevant, I think, but I'm not a specialist and know better, please respond.
My report is intended as a manual for those who will soon be applying for their new Dutch passport.

650 Baht in stamps? I think I read 50, for regular EMS mail. Does anyone here have any info on this please?

    • somewhere in Thailand says up

this is on the site of the Ned Embassy in Bangkok
Costs 50 Bath if it needs to be sent in Thailand.
Costs 650 baht if it has to be sent after Laos, Burma or Cambodia

When and how will I receive my new travel document?

You should take into account a maximum processing time of 4 weeks (statutory period). Additional documents may be requested for the assessment of your application. In that case, the processing time can be up to a maximum of 2 times 4 weeks. You will be notified as soon as your document is ready.

When applying for a new travel document, you will be given the choice of whether you want to pick up your new document or have it sent to you.

If you choose to collect your new document in person, you can come by without an appointment from Monday to Friday between 8.30:11.00 and 13.30:15.00 and on Thursday between XNUMX:XNUMX and XNUMX:XNUMX. Please take into account our closing days.

Passports are only sent against payment. A declaration must be completed for this purpose. If you choose to have the passport sent home by registered mail (within Thailand), you will need to submit a pre-paid envelope (50 Bath) with your address on it. Your old passport will then be invalidated on the spot. Valid visas are kept intact.

If your passport is to be sent to Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia or Laos, please provide an envelope and stamps with a value of 650 Baht for postage.

If you still want to keep your current document during the processing of your new passport, you must send the 'old' passport to: Dutch embassy Attn. Consular Department. Only after receipt of your old passport will your new passport be returned together with your old, invalidated passport.

The new travel document will be issued/sent to you after your old document has been invalidated.

If you still need your current travel document during the processing of your application (for example because you need it in the meantime to be able to travel), you must first send your current document (by registered mail) to the embassy - for the attention of the consular section – before we can send the new travel document.

You will receive your old travel document invalidated. If certain pages need to be kept intact due to valid visas/residence permits, please make this clear.

Erik, I was told 650 bath on the envelope, but I'm going to pick up the new passport, so no need to test.
I checked this, you are right it is 50 Thb and is done by registered mail.
From the Embassy's website: "If you choose to have the passport sent to your home by registered mail (within Thailand) you will need to submit a pre-paid envelope (50 Bath) with your address stated."

i had my passport in my place of residence within 10 days (last May)
Depends on how many requests there are.

  8. erik says up

I remember that once during the application for the new passport, I could already have the old one invalidated. After all, I didn't have to leave Thailand, the old passport remains an ID and I can fly domestically on my Thai driver's license.

How is that now? I hate sending these kinds of documents by post.

  9. Nico B says up

Erik, you must appear in person for the application, barring extremely special circumstances.
The old passport will be invalidated when you come to pick up the new one, as I am going to do, I also hate sending such an important document by post, even if it is registered. Suppose it gets lost, you have to go for a new one and pay again, the risk of sending it is yours. So if you do not want to have it sent by post, you can pick it up anyway, at which point your old passport will be invalidated and so your old passport cannot be lost, which includes your Visa and you need to get your Visa. transferred to your new passport.
