Blog reader Jan Dekkers writes about it, but an extra memory came to mind about his flirtation with a beautiful lady from the ground staff.

The flirt

Yes .. you experience everything. I think that is how I flew back to the Netherlands in 2001. I was in Bangkok to check in with EVA Air. The economy line was very long and I didn't feel like queuing too long. I had been on the road since half past three in the afternoon. First with a taxi to the airport of Ubon. Then a domestic flight to Bangkok, where I arrived at 21.00:2.30 PM and then waited for the EVA Air flight to leave at around XNUMX:XNUMX AM.

But at least I was still awake enough, because I saw that there was no one in the first class to check in. When that had happened, a Dutch man approached me. That you can do that so easily while you just fly economy. If everyone did that…. my answer was that not everyone does and that if they did you would be sent back to the economy row. All in all, we went through customs together and stayed together. After checking in, we went to the plane together.

And …. at the end of the trunk stood a beautiful girl, who was responsible for what happened in the trunk. After flirting with her a bit I said to her.” Why don't you come with me?” “I cannot do, sir!” was her answer. Me in turn: “But you like to go with me?” Again the same answer: “Cannot do, sir” “Okay”, I said, “when you don't go with me, I come back to you”.

Of course I shouldn't have said that, because after fifteen minutes we were back at the trunk and so were they. “You see. What I promise, I will do. And they laugh. The whole conversation was, of course, just a game. I knew she wasn't coming with me to Amsterdam and of course she knew that too. But the fact that we were back at the gate was of course not to pick her up. The reason the pilot had aborted the takeoff was because he received a message on his screen that a baggage hatch was open.

After an hour we were allowed to board the plane again and my girlfriend was back in the trunk. The game started again. If she didn't get on the plane with me, I'd come back. This time I added that I would not leave Bangkok without her. It was clear to her and to me that it was just a game.

But….. After fifteen minutes we were back at the gate and you guessed it. She was also there again. She burst out laughing when I got off the plane “You mean what you say? ” But weather was not the reason to go back to the gate to pick her up, but the same problem as the first time.

When we got off the plane, another surprise awaited us. We received consumption vouchers and meal vouchers and also a small credit to spend freely. The reason was that we had to wait for a new crew to be flown in from Taipei. The current team would work too many hours if they still flew to Amsterdam.

I spent the time that we were now allowed to spend extra at the airport with my new Dutch acquaintance. We talked a lot to each other. Have a drink now and then, have a bite to eat and the time flew by

When we were finally allowed to board the plane for the third time, I searched for my girlfriend. But she was nowhere to be seen. No doubt her shift was over.

This elicited the comment.” Well, then let's go” and so it happened. We did not go back to the gate, but flew on to Amsterdam, where we arrived 12 hours late.
