You experience everything in Thailand (63)
A loyal blog reader, who has been living in Laos for more than 10 years, is Jan Dekkers. He looks forward to the new stories on the blog every day. He also has a story, but wondered if he could submit it from Laos.
Of course that was allowed, in fact, we invite the Dutch speakers in the neighboring countries to also send in their stories, because you also experience a lot in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam or Myanmar, don't you?
The taster of EVA Air
One of my first trips to Thailand in 2000 was with EVA Air. The society that I have remained largely loyal to until now. I sat next to a very nice, not too young man with whom I immediately had a good contact. The flight attendant came to ask if everything was to our liking. She did so in perfect English. The good man asked me to translate it for him, because he spoke bad English.
Now I used a diet during that period and everyone who flies more often that the diet meals are served earlier than the rest of the meals. That my neighbor had not flown often (or perhaps for the first time) was evident from the fact that he was very surprised that I did and he did not get food. So you already understand, I ask how that happened?
Well, I said, EVA Air has a taster on board these days. They want to make sure the food is good. Fortunately, the gentleman did not look back, because two more diet meals were served there.
All in all, mister didn't trust it very much. But when the stewardess came to ask if everything was all right, the gentleman started to have doubts. What was she doing now, was the question. And my answer: Well, she came to ask if the food was good and if they could serve it out. You're crazy, you're joking was his reply. With my most serious face I told him that if he didn't want to believe me, he should look behind him.
Sure enough, they had started serving the meals. I rose in prestige with Mr. At breakfast the story repeated itself. Then the gentleman was really convinced, he thought EVA Air was a good company. By the way, I had a very pleasant flight, sir was very good company. Spoke no English, but had experienced a lot in his life and could tell fascinating stories about it.
Whether he saw any tasters on another EVA Air flight after this flight I cannot say here, because I never got to meet Mr. on later flights.
Another fun story in this beautiful series!
I had to laugh because I too have flown a lot with Eva Air between the Netherlands and Thailand and knew that these meals were indeed served earlier.
Very nice anecdote and recognizable..definitely belongs in this series.
Great, would have loved to see his face. And I'm also curious how he made it in Thailand without being able to speak English.
Lovely juicy story
I can still remember that the ladies flight attendants changed clothes THREE (3) times. . The menu was in a leather folder. Three different menus. And no one paid attention to a drink (whiskey). Where does the time go? !! HG.
Yes, I remember that too. China Airlines also did that. But the “courtesy” of the ladies/gentlemen was great. HJG.
Hilarious !
