In this series we have been able to read wonderful stories about what people in Thailand have experienced. The blog readers also appreciate this, because the large number of comments and thumbs up speaks for itself.

But be careful! Beautiful, exciting, funny, remarkable experiences also appeared on Thailandblog before the series started. From the extensive archive of more than 10 years of Thailand blog, we occasionally pick out a story that also deserves a place in this "You experience everything in Thailand".

First in line, our own Khun Peter will speak with a number of short anecdotes from Thai life. Please understand: it is not meant to make fun of Thai people, they are funny incidents, which he experienced himself.

Read the stories, smile and then write your own story about what you experienced that is worth telling.

Thai logic

Gifts

“Do you want to bring a present from the Netherlands for my Dad?” my girlfriend asks. “Okay,” I say. "What are you thinking of?" “He would like a watch,” says my love. A few months later I ask if he likes his watch. "I don't know," she says, "because he's not wearing it." “Oh”, I say, “Why not?”. Her answer: “He can't tell the time….”.

Out of stock

We order a Tom Yam Kung with seafood (soup) at a seafood restaurant in Tao Takiab. The waitress asks my Thai girlfriend: "Do you want a large or a small portion?" She replies: "Just do a small portion." Nevertheless, we get a big bowl of Tom Yam Kung. The bill then shows a large portion that is also a hundred baht more expensive. My girlfriend asks the waitress for clarification. “Oh”, says the waitress without batting an eyelid, “the small portion is sold out…”

Cutlery

You will not easily find a knife as cutlery in a restaurant in Thailand. Thai food with a fork and spoon. In a decent restaurant in Jomtien I ordered dessert: ice cream with seasonal fruit. The seasonal fruit turned out to be small pieces of watermelon and pineapple, which are available all year round in Thailand. But the biggest surprise was the included cutlery: knife and fork…. Always handy with an ice cream.

Sister has boyfriend

A few years ago my friend told me that her sister had a boyfriend. The conversation went like this:

She: “My sister go to post office today”. Peter: "Oh, why?" She: “She has boyfriend”. Peter: “Oh, nice. Falang man?” She: “No, Thai man”.

Peter: “A good Thai man?” She: “Yes, good man”. Peter: “Okay, great, but why does she go to the post office?” She: “Him send money for my sister”. Peter: “Aha, yes I understand”.

Peter: “How much does he send?” She: “500 baht”. Peter: “Oh, that's not much”. She: “No, him not work. But him play lottery”. Peter: "Oh, sure!"

Well, why go to work if you can play the lottery? After this kind of Thai logic I walk around with a big smile on my face. What a wonderful country!

I had to smile at the "Sold Out" part. J

You don't have to be in Thailand for that. I have run a restaurant in Blankenberge for many years.

One day I heard one of my waiters say to a lady who was ordering with her daughter, “I'm sorry ma'am but the 1/4 chicken is sold out, we only have 1/2 chicken left”

Yet I still think that is logical. As an operator, I would not be happy to simply cut half a chicken into two quarters of chickens.

Very nice piece and very recognizable that Thai logic. Even with the Thai government you should not always expect logical decisions and measures.

    Wonderful anecdotes, so recognizable.
My God, how I miss this beautiful country and its inhabitants.
Hope we can go back this year.

Als je kipbouten/poten gaat kopen moet je maar eens vragen of dit de voor- of achterpoten zijn.
    Zie hun reacties dan 😉

Nee hoor Ronny, hun antwoord is simpel: “Up to you …”
En daar stond de farang met zijn mond vol tanden. 🙂

        Dat kan ook natuurlijk 😉
