We are nearing the end of a series of stories, telling how Thailand enthusiasts have experienced something special, funny, curious, moving, strange or ordinary in Thailand.

We will continue for a few more days, but right now we are asking blog readers to write down an experience to continue the series. It can be long or short, but just fun to tell. Perfect Dutch is allowed, but not required, the editors will help you to make a nice story out of it. Send your message, possibly with a photo you took yourself, to the editors via the contact form..

Today a story from blog reader Gust Feyen about a fortunately successful adventure with a snakebite.

Snakebite

Last year my wife and I spent the winter in Thailand again for three months. The first weeks we traveled around quite a bit. We stayed on Koh Samui and because of the bad weather we flew to the north. The plan to explore Malaysia literally fell into the water.

After a few days in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, we took the bus to Chiang Khong on the Mekong during the end of the year. Apart from a scooter trip to Mae Sai to extend our visa, we walked a lot.

Similarly, one day we walked around outside the city in a rather uninhabited area. Suddenly, of course, there were those dogs again. My wife is terrified of it. Immediately I had to pull a branch off a tree on the side of the road. Dogs have not understood it that way, if you hold a stick in your hand. Obediently I do my or one of my many marital duties. I step into the grass side next to the road where I saw a large branch.

Before I hold the branch, I feel a stabbing pain in my foot. What was that? I couldn't immediately find the cause. Concerned, my wife examined the foot and saw two small wounds. She still keeps the photo of it. Immediately we knew it was a snakebite. Sung what now?

Not a person or a house to be seen anywhere and we didn't have a phone card either. There you are… More or less scared we waited to see how I was going to react. We knew that with a venomous bite you don't have much time left, but when after about fifteen minutes I still didn't start to react abnormally, we were reassured that the snake wasn't venomous.

So you see: happiness has to be earned! Vacation is always a bit of an adventure…

You luckily got away with it!

It reminds me of what happened to me a few years ago. I walked into the kitchen and suddenly felt a sharp pain in my right big toe. I looked down and saw a scorpion

I thought I wouldn't survive and called my son to say goodbye but he didn't answer..... Since I was still alive I went on the internet to see how poisonous scorpions are in Thailand. So not deadly. It was quite painful for a day…

We've had half a year with these rotten beasts. Look like baby scorpions. Greyish brown. But oh woe. Me under the sole of my foot and my husband in his thumb. Since then, we've been checking everything we touch

It could also just have been a venomous snake that bit you, but are you lucky with a so-called dry bite.
The snake then decides to be economical with its precious poison, however, that does not happen very often, so you should Idd. been lucky.
