The fact that it is scorching hot during the day has also reached the Thai. Add that to an extra long weekend and the beaches of the seaside resorts on the Gulf of Thailand are busier than busy.

It is not only the Thai from Bangkok who rush to the sea and beach. Even from Lampang and Chiang Mai, people take the trouble to cool off by the sea. Even if it's just for one day. That means: racing to Hua Hin in the night from Friday to Saturday and back the next day. Many Thai don't even bother to book a hotel or guesthouse. A mat somewhere on the floor is sufficient. The consequence of the influx is that the main roads of Hua Hin then constantly silt up.

The traffic chaos, exacerbated by police officers who think they control the traffic, means that you can hardly get through even by bike.

Popular with the Thai is the beach of the military base in Hua Hin between Khao Takiab and Khao Tao. It is richly overgrown with casuarina trees and therefore offers plenty of shade. Entrance is free. Perhaps that is why the soldiers at the entrance had to moderate the influx of Thai guests.

Directly behind the beach are the necessary bungalows that the military rent out. Usually with a heavenly view. Until all those thousands of day trippers spoil your tropical feeling.

If I understand correctly, the Thais should stay away from their beach so as not to spoil your beautiful view? That's nice!

I stay in Khao Takiab every year, never noticed any of the described crowds in the months of January and February.
and of course the Thais should not stay away!

It is extremely annoying for tourists and expats, but the Thai population has every right to enjoy the beach or the sea in their own country on a day off or at the weekend.

Hopefully everyone survives the day at the beach and they don't drown while swimming. Because things regularly go wrong in Hua Hin in terms of swimming performance. Hans meant his comment about the fact that the peace is considerably disturbed at the luxury houses in Hua Hin, which is known as quiet, of course cynically. At least that's how I read it.

Bangsaen beach is also very popular with the people of Bangkok, there are hardly any tourists.

Jack's right. The comment (bouncer) is meant to be ironic. It was by no means my intention to keep the Thai from their own beaches.

Come on, this usually happens 4 or 5 times a year when Hua Hin is overcrowded and everyone knows in advance that it is best to avoid the Phetkasem Road. There are parallel roads to get to the center and cross the city, around the Canalroad (double lane), the U-Palu Road and the small roads along the railway line. I have used these roads regularly in recent days and there were no crowds anywhere. Not comparable to the crowds on the E-40 to the coast during a long weekend or in the various seaside resorts on the North Sea. Just try to find a parking space.

Did not know that there are also cottages / bungalows rented out by the military.

Does anyone have a link where I can get more info like prices etc.

    Many thanks in advance

According to my girlfriend, these are only rented to military personnel and their relatives. So not only for us foreigners, but also not for other Thais.

Every Sunday afternoon traffic jam is blown towards Bangkok, from Samuth songram on Rama 2 Rd,
That's why I always ride back on Mondays
