The Klai Kang Won Palace in Hua Hin

After four years, King Bhumibol will be discharged from Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok today. The 85-year-old monarch was admitted in September 2009 with pneumonia. Recently, his health has stabilized and he is appearing more in public again.

Hua Hin

Rumors had been circulating in Hua Hin for several days that the royal family would come to the resort. The king has a special relationship with Hua Hin. For example, he likes to reside in the Klai Kang Won palace in Hua Hin since his early years. The monarch could relax better here than in hectic Bangkok.

The palace is located on the beach, north of the center of Hua Hin. It is designed in a European style with a distinct Spanish flair. King Bhumibol has a clear preference for this abode. In 1950, he went there to celebrate his marriage to Queen Sirikit. It is not clear how long he will continue to live there.

Party along the route

Today the king will travel by car from Bangkok to Hua Hin. A drive that normally takes about two and a half hours. The authorities have checked the roads, cleaned up the streets and hung the national and royal flags along the way to the palace.

Along the route, tens of thousands of Thais will try to catch a glimpse of the beloved king. Travelers who have to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin or vice versa today should expect delays.

As I heard from Thais here in Cha-Am, the King and his retinue would drive through Cha-Am around 17 pm, so arrive in Hua-Hin 20 to 25 minutes later. This is for information for anyone interested

The king comes and the streets where he passes are cleaned up. Let us open that the king travels the country more often.
The people respect their monarch. I thank that an important factor is that the Thai know what their king and also the family are doing. Every evening you can see on TV what someone from the family is doing. Respect for the royal house has been instilled in the school since childhood. Every morning flag salute and singing of the national anthem. Outside the school every morning and evening the singing in the streets. That gives a national feeling.
