We drink too little water

Enough water drinking is important, yet it happens too little. On average, we drink five glasses of water a day. At the same time, we know that it is good to drink seven glasses of water a day drink. Only 15 percent of respondents meet the recommended amount. While as many as half think they drink enough water.

This is evident from the water test of Menzis SamenGezond among 10.000 Dutch people.

Drinking water is important to you health. It is necessary to absorb nutrients, to discharge waste and to maintain body temperature. In addition, sufficient fluid is crucial for our brains. They consist of 75 percent water. As soon as the fluid balance in your head is not up to standard, this can cause headaches, reduced concentration, poor sleep and, in the case of severe dehydration, it can even lead to confusion.

The biggest pitfall of drinking enough water is the idea that you are already doing well. No less than half of the respondents are convinced that they already drink enough water, but when questioned further, it turns out that with an average of five glasses of water, they drink two too little a day. If they want to drink more water, the main problem is that they simply forget (35%) or don't because they have to urinate too much (9%).

Young people forget water

Among young people, the difference is greatest between ''knowing what is good for you (7,3 glasses)'' and ''actually drinking (4,6 glasses)''. No less than 46 percent of them indicate that they forget to drink water. They do want to be helped more than average to drink more water. Tips on how to drink more water (27%) and someone or something to remind them (32%) to drink water are especially preferred. And while tap water is by far the favourite, flavored water is twice as popular among young people (13%) than over-40s (6%).

Water bottle on the rise

No less than 68 percent of the respondents drink water from their own bottle, of which 39 percent every day. Among young people (up to 30 years old), even half drink from their own water bottle every day. It is therefore not surprising that 9 out of 10 are in favor of more public places where water is available, such as water taps.

What about Thailand? Do you drink enough water, so 7 glasses a day?

I just have a cup with me. Content 0.7 liter (Yeti, also stays nice and cool)
I drink it at least 3 a day and then at least 3 or 4 glasses of water.
So it will soon be 3-3,5 liters per day.

If I do "heavy" work in the garden and sweat a lot while trimming the hedge, I just drink an extra liter or 2 a day.

I just pay attention to the color of my urine when I go to the toilet.
Too dark is too little to drink
Very light is too much to drink

    Just google it

In my opinion, this item is not suitable for Thailand. 7 glasses a day is far too little here.

    • That is why it also says above the article: We drink too little water….

I drink about 3 to 3,5 liters of water throughout the day, but I can only do that when I'm mainly at home during the day. Then I can also easily go to the toilet to discharge it again. When we are away by car for a visit to Immigration or elsewhere, for example, it becomes a lot less, although we always have 2 bottles of water of 0,7 liters in the car.

Not that I have a monopoly on wisdom, but I have been advised against keeping bottled water in the car.
I used to always do, “Just in case”.

But I once read that the plastic bottles secrete bad substances when heated and in the car it can be 40-50 degrees when it is in the sun.

You can buy a bottle of water every 100 meters, and there are many gas stations along the way.
Toilets (even Western ones) are widely available everywhere.

As a steward I worked a lot in a very dry working climate. The air on board sometimes contains only 2% moisture. For years I drank too little water, resulting in a constantly dry nose, fatigue and jet lag, irregular sleep, a rather unhealthy life. Luckily I didn't smoke and only drank alcohol occasionally. Some of my colleagues kept a large bottle of water during the flight and forced themselves to empty it before the end of the flight. I didn't.
Now I drink a lot more. Always have bottles of water in the fridge, which I fill up again immediately after drinking, drink cold tea without much sugar (those bags with instant tea: I use one bag for two liters. I think those bags are for one glass. There is sugar there At night there is a bottle of water next to my bed and when I cycle, I take two bottles of water with me.
When I work outside at home, I often walk in to drink.
Tea, coffee, water and Giffarine Chlorophyll, a health drink with vitamin C (in sachets, powder form, sugar free). Sometimes I make oelong tea, which I drink with ice or green tea, ditto. Often a liter of tea with meals..

What I'm saying: it doesn't have to be just water. But it should not contain alcohol, because that dries out again. So 20 beers does not apply here.
I now also hardly suffer from a dry nose...

    Dear Editor,

When I or we are in Thailand I start the morning with two bottles of water
which you get from the hotel(at home in Thailand too).

You quickly forget that you quickly run out of moisture when you are in Thailand
    day is about to begin.

I myself have already had a time when I had taken too little moisture and
had to go straight to the hospital (had nothing to do with thick feet).

it really is a must to start your day with that, especially if you like a
    hold drink.

What can go wrong if you don't take any or not enough fluids.
    Kidneys, heart, etc.

So I myself have had a moisture problem before and learned very quickly
    (Certainly in the Isaan).

    Looking forward to other experiences.
    Yours faithfully,

    Erwin

TIP: If you go or have been to the toilet, drink a large glass of water to replenish the moisture. Make it a habit.

Checking whether you drink enough water is extremely simple. Your urine should be as light as lemon juice. If the color is darker, you are not watering enough. You can therefore measure this in all countries and at any temperature . I can not make it easier for you .

Sorry , but drink should of course be drink !
