Dear Martin,

My wife and I intend to settle permanently in Waeng Yai in Isaan next year. I am currently 69 years old and have been on medication since a heart attack in 2014 and a neck hernia in 2008.

I smoke a dozen small cigars a day and drink a few beers a day. I am 1.84 m tall and weigh 90 kg. My blood pressure averages 145/95.

The medicines I use in the Netherlands are:

  • Ascal Cardio-Neuro BT 100 MG Carbasalate Calcium 1 tablet per day.
  • Amlodipine Tabl 5mg Amlodipine 1 tablet per day.
  • Perindopril Tert-But T 8 mg Perindopril 1 tablet per day.
  • Simvastine Simvastine 1 tablet per day.
  • Amitriptyline Amilriptyline 1 tablet per day.

I feel good and have not been to a general practitioner or specialist since 2019, partly due to corona. The medication has since been on repeat prescription.

Because I will no longer be covered by Dutch health insurance at the end of next year, I will have to look for a Thai health insurer and I would like to know whether the above-mentioned medication is also available in Thailand or comparable medicines?

Do you have a solution for this?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

D.

Dear D,

The medication is almost all available in Thailand.

You will have to replace Ascal with Aspent 81 and I don't know if the cigars are available here, but they may not be so essential.

If you are looking for a health insurer, I advise you to contact: AA Insure Hua Hin [email protected]
I personally have very good experiences with it.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
