Dear Martin,

I always read all your valuable advice with great interest. In recent months there have been many questions about the prostate. Dr. Google publishes conflicting advice about whether or not to have an orgasm in old age. Would you like your opinion if it is healthy for me to come once a week?

I am a man of 82 years, 1.90 cm, 76 kilos and my blood pressure is now on the high side for me 159/89. Live healthy and be anti smoking, alcohol, soft drinks, ready meals and medication. Faithfully drink 3 liters of water.

From the age of 40, use a handful of vitamins every day, supplemented with DHEA 12 mg for the last 50 years. Irregular heartbeat in 2010 and catheter ablation a year later. A pacemaker was placed in 2019. In 2013 a failed cataract operation on my right eye for which I faithfully use Duratears ointment and Timogel. My left eye adjusted well and I actually didn't notice that I was only looking with 1 eye. Until I was treated to a mild cerebral infarction in 2015. Which reduced my field of vision by 30%. That took some getting used to. Yet every day I feel grateful that I can still see. Additional symptoms are that I have become milder and enjoy life much more by slowing down, doing everything more with attention and taking the time to pay attention to the details.

Naturally, the cardiologist and neurologist enthusiastically prescribed Statins, Bisoprolol, Furosemide and Rivaroxaban. I only started using the blood thinner but instead of 20 mg 10. Supplemented with natural blood thinners.

My annual blood test invariably gets the rating of Excellent, but then I wonder why I get tired quite quickly. I think that must be age.

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Sincerely,

J.

Dear J,

Natural blood thinner together with Rivaroxaban does not seem like a good combination to me. Then you do not know what you are taking. 20mg is the right dose. Skip the statins.

Fatigue comes with old age. That's right. How is your pacemaker adjusted? Hopefully not lower than 60. The blood pressure is not too bad.

Answer to the most important question. There are indeed stories of death during sex. It is certainly good for the prostate. For the brain too. Make sure it doesn't take too much effort. If it doesn't work today, tomorrow is another day.

A very famous patient of mine came to visit at 92. The complaint was: "It doesn't work anymore". There was no Viagra back then. His wife was 35 years younger. He turned 101. In recent years he still enjoyed watching.

"So just go up and down."

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
