Dear Martin,

Thank you Dr. Maarten for your quick response to my prostate problem. It is not entirely clear to me and I have the following question. You say that you use Tamsulosin 0,4 in combination with Dutasteride for the urinary problem. I use Finasteride tab 5 mg for my prostate and I read that Tamsulosin is also used for an oversized prostate.

In this case, could I stop taking Finasteride? If not, would the combination of Finasteride (I've been taking this for 8 months now) with Tamsulosin not cause any problems? With Finasteride I have also had problems with dizziness in the morning and now take it at night and have had no problems since.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards,

J.

Dear J,

There are some possibilities:
– Finasteride plus tamsulosin
– Dutasteride plus tamsulosin
– Duodart (a combination preparation of dutasteride and tamsulosin in one tablet)

Finasteride and Dutasteride shrink the prostate. I wouldn't stop the finasteride because it works very slowly. Real results only come after a year.

The alpha-blockers Terazosin, Tamsulosin, Alfuzosin and Silodosin affect smooth muscle tissue, which, among other things, dilates blood vessels (lowers blood pressure), but also the urethra, making it easier to urinate.

With a sharp drop in blood pressure, dizziness occurs. Therefore take it in the evening.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
