Dear Martin,
To my surprise, I was unable to obtain aspirin (Bayer) from a pharmacist in Pattaya. He claimed that aspirin has been dispensed in Thailand for 2 years. Now aspirin has always been a good analgesic and antipyretic for me.
Concrete: is this true?
And if it can no longer be found under this brand name, is acetylsalicylic acid (the chemical formula) then available under a different name, for example as a generic product?
Ibuprofen also works well, but is bad for my kidney problem.
Regards,
M.
*****
Dear M,
Aspirin is readily available in most pharmacies, usually in 325 mg tablets.
Generic name here is: acetylsalicylic acid.
So just go to another pharmacy.
Sincerely,
Dr. Maarten
Aspent M (Aspirin)
60 tablets 81mg in a bottle 52 Baht Fascino Pharmacies
I also take an asaflow 80 mg daily, I have this brought from Belgium, I have also searched in vain for pills with acetylsalicylic acid, as M says from the market in Thailand, they were not even available at Fascino.
I don't know why they are out of the market either, but I have heard this from various aphotekers in Pattaya.
Cardiprin 100 is labeled each tablet contains 100mgApirin & 45mg Glycine , that is wait i got in Thai pharmacy for Aspirin
However, I don't know if this is the typical Aspirin dosage or replacement for it.
Thank you for the information
Unfortunately, it is true that Bayer's aspirin has been out of stock for two years, especially in Pattaya
Been to many real pharmacists and no one can deliver it. Also my hospital Memorial here couldn't deliver it,
Aspent-m 81mg only
Have switched to saridon alternating with paracetamol (Sara)
I have to take aspirin after getting some stents put in.
I buy Edwards aspirin 81mg in strips of 10. Cost 25 baht.
The lady at the pharmacy always asks: ''asperin for the head or for the heart''
So 81 mg.
That Bayer stuff is junk anyway, if you ask me.
Dear Martin,
Asperine from Bayer is indeed no longer available in Pattaya.
I've been to several pharmacies, etc.
fr. regards,
Louis L.
Dear Louis,
That's right. Must have something to do with import tax. Generic Aspirin is for sale in different types of 250-500mg. The latter is often hard to get. Prescription is not necessary. Strangely enough, that is officially the case for cardio aspirin 80-100 mg.
Indeed, no longer available for 2 years, and for all I know, no longer available throughout the country, but the baby aspirins of 81 mg are
No one, but no one knows why. Again typical Thai, there is another person who has decided that it is not good for you.
I always bought a whole box, and have been taking 1 tablet a day all my life, good for the blood circulation.
However, there is a Thai generic (name forgotten) available at some drugstores, I meant 450 mg in powder form (cachet)
All other brands of painkillers that you see at 7/11 etc. are paracetamol or light combinations (100mg), so no 500mg aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid.
Too bad because they were much cheaper in Thailand than in the Netherlands,
It may sound crazy, but this was also the umpteenth downer in Thailand for me, nothing ever changes that is of use to you.
Just for sale online, it seems.
