Dear Martin,
I am a man of 85 years. Three years ago I had surgery on my prostate with Holep laser. No doctor had discussed the possibility of incontinence. Could it be that they hit a nerve in my sphincter?
Can you tell me what I can do about that incontinence?
Many thanks for your answer.
Regards,
V.

Dear V,
Your observation is correct. Something went wrong during the operation. Incontinence up to 6 weeks after such an operation is normal. 3 years not.
I'm afraid there's not much you can do about it.
What you can do is:
- At fixed times, for example, urinating every two hours.
- Stop drinking two hours before going to sleep.
- Pelvic floor muscle exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
However, there is no guarantee that this will solve your problems, but it is worth a try.
Level
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Maarten
