Dear Martin,

I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice based on this report. As you know from the previous information, I am now 80 years old, do not smoke and drink a bottle of beer every day and do not excessively use alcohol. I eat quite little and not very fat, yet I am now 84 kg, while when I came here in 2012 I was 75 kg. Only take 1 aspirin per day for good blood circulation. I don't feel sick, but I do feel lazy. You know the rest from my previous questions.

Dear Mr. H.

Please find your lab report as attached.

For about your lab report, complete blood count (CBC), kidney function test (BUN, Creatinine, GFR), liver enzymes and PSA level, all that tests are fine. The other tests;

– Fasting blood sugar (FBS) level is 122 mg/dL, higher than normal range. HbA1C is 6.0%, HbA1C is your average blood glucose levels for the last two to three months, that means that you might have high risk of prediabetes.

– Lipid profile; your good cholesterol (HDL-c) level is normal, but the level of cholesterol, triglyceride and bad-cholesterol (LDL-c) are quite high.

The high cholesterol level often the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices. To reduce your cholesterol, try to change your lifestyle; have a healthy diet, eat less fatty food especially saturated fat, cut down on alcohol, stop smoking, regular exercise and sometimes medication can be help.

Because of high levels of blood sugar and cholesterol increase the risk for stroke and heart attack, I recommended you should bring this report to see the doctor for diagnosis, medication or more physical testing .

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information.

Best Regards,

R.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

H

Dear h,

I wouldn't worry much. Sugar is slightly too high, but HbA1C is fairly normal. That indeed points to pre-diabetes.

The story about cholesterol is crazy, but it is still used as a fear tool in most of the world. The only thing that helps is more exercise, but that also has disadvantages.

Such a lab. at your age I pass it off as good.

Just keep going and enjoy life is my advice.

Kind regards,

Dr. Maarten
