Dear Martin,

I am 72 years old. Every day I take a tablet of pre-nolol 100 mg and 1 tab of aspirin 82 for hypertension. Have had a stent in left leg and chest for 2 years. Colon colon cancer, completely removed. Cardiologist says I have bad cholesterol and need to take tablets for that, can you let me know advantageous prices and what dose to take per day and when?

After removing the complete colon I have a big problem with my bowel movement, at least 24 times per 11 hours and I have to be quick because can't stop it, a problem when you have to go somewhere, errands, friends etc..

Is there a possibility to reduce this problem through medication. now take diarine frequently.

Please give your opinion on these issues.

Greetings and thanks in advance.

Regards,

R.

Dear R,

I do not give advice on drug prices.

Now that all or part of your colon has been removed, it will be difficult to stop the diarrhea. A new treatment for this is monthly injections of Lanreotide Autogel (Somatuline Autogel), but that is very expensive.

Diarine (loperamide) may also help. 3x 2 mg per day.

Then there's the BRAT diet: www.healthline.com/health/brat-diet#_noHeaderPrefixedContent
That helps, but it is important to supplement it regularly with other foods.

You can just as well leave out the drugs that your cardiologist wants to prescribe. They don't make you a day older and the diarrhea can get even worse.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
