Dear Martin,

Am a man of 67 years. I am 1,92 m tall and weigh 115 kg. Don't smoke and drink 2 glasses of wine a day. Also no alcohol.

I have been diabetic 2 for several years. My medications are as follows: 2 tablets Unidiamecron in the morning sober, 1000 mg Glucophage after breakfast and Forxiga in the evening.

Although my eating habits and medication use have not changed, my measurement in the morning is higher than before. No problem during the day, then I even have to be careful that it doesn't get too low. Previously I was always around 90 in the morning. Now this is usually around 120. How do you explain this? Could this be due to stress?

Regards,

G.

Dear G,

120 mg/dl is not really too high for someone with diabetes. Your medication is quite exotic and you run the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Stress can indeed cause higher sugar levels.

You don't have to worry at the moment. Beware of too low values.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
