It appears that the Dutch are hardly aware of the relationship between cancer and alcohol consumption. Drinking alcohol leads to a greater risk of seven different types of cancer; liver, chest, intestine, mouth, throat, esophagus and larynx.

“It is not yet really known in the Netherlands that alcohol, even in moderate consumption, is a risk factor for developing cancer. It is worrying that this knowledge is low, since 2,9 percent of new cancer diagnoses are caused by alcohol consumption. Not only heavy alcohol use, but also light alcohol use," a spokesperson for KWF Cancer Control told NU.nl.

According to the researchers, more information should be provided about the risks of alcohol consumption and the increased risk of cancer. “The link between alcohol and cancer is clear. It is not only heavy drinkers who are at risk (..) It is worrying that so few people link alcohol consumption to the increased risk of these seven types of cancer,” says a researcher.

In 2015, the Health Council of the Netherlands advised not to drink alcohol, or at least not to drink more than one glass a day. This advice is followed by the Nutrition Center in the new Wheel of Five.

This message will also not prevent a lot of die-hard alcohol consumers from changing their behavior. That is probably in their genes and the statement that you have to die of something is also very legitimate for this group of people. I do hope that many people take this seriously and that she is spared an end of life with that terrible disease.

Everyone knows that alcohol is bad for the body, but what isn't bad? Smoking is bad, eating too much sugar is bad, eating too much fast food is bad and you can keep listing it, some in a factory come into contact with hazardous substances also bad, firefighters in the smoke is bad for the lungs, arranging traffic between the exhaust is bad, vegetables grown near chemical plants is bad, so i suggest living on a desert island with coconuts and drinking rainwater, which is also bad in fact. is there actually a healthy life? I do not think so
Walking around in Bangkok is just too much dirt in the air. too much spray in the Isaan
    we destroy everything ourselves

The connection between two things, in this case alcohol and cancer, should always be treated with caution. A statistical relationship (if A is more than B is also included) does not always mean that there is a causal (causative) relationship.
I know of a nice study that shows that if the number of storks (A) increases in a certain area, there will also be more babies (B).
I think you should look more at ALL the effects of alcohol on mortality, and not just on cancer. It's on this link:

    http://www.medicine.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/booth/hliving/Alctype.html

Mortality in relation to alcohol consumption shows a J-curve. One to two glasses per day on average increases cancer mortality slightly, but reduces the risk of heart disease more. Total mortality is slightly down. (With wine the mortality decreases more in terms of both cancer and heart disease; with beer the effect is less)

Conclusion: 1-2 drinks per day makes little difference to the TOTAL mortality, with more than two per day the risk of mortality increases sharply. Drinking wine is better than drinking beer. The other drinks are in between.

The article is not about more or less cancer mortality due to alcohol consumption, but about the relative absence of awareness that alcohol consumption can cause cancer. Believe me, having it is worse than dying from it!

The statement that you have to die of something is legitimate.
Dying of cancer may be annoying, but you don't know what you will die of if you live super healthy all your life and you don't know if the way you die will be more pleasant than dying of cancer.

By the way, the worst thing for a person's health is constant worry.
    That undermines your health enormously.
    So live and have fun.
And when the inevitable day of final farewell has come, remember the good times you had.
And think back to that lady or gentleman who sat across from you at the table, gnawing on a lettuce leaf and taking a bite of a raw carrot.
And then took a sip of the water and looked scornfully at your steak and your beer.

Hey Ruud, my name is Rudi.
And also my statement about this post is almost the same as yours….

It seems to me a typical article typical of the zeitgeist in the Western world. Nothing is good anymore, everything is unhealthy, everything is dangerous. Everything has to be thought through, enjoying without worries is no longer allowed.

I keep it in hand in a simple way: excess harm, with everything.
And with this one I'm going to drink a cool Singha.

I'm not going to deny it but on the other hand just about everything we eat and drink is poison and carcinogenic even the air we breathe has had its day. Kudos to these researchers who appropriate a different item every few years to endlessly can 'by researching' and hoping to waste taxpayers' money or through other donations..without actually doing any further work.
People are not stupid and also know that just about everything we consume is rubbish.
You guys better investigate why the medicines that are already there against this disease have to be so expensive!? We know that too.. but you prefer not to talk about it.
Wishing everyone a healthy and wonderful life.

My dear doctor who has been trying to convince me of a healthier way of life for 35 years, and who partially succeeded, drank 1 glass of wine every YEAR on New Year's; ate fries once on his birthday; almost never ate meat; always organic vegetables; was a naturopath through and through and rightly prescribed as few medications as possible. I tried to follow him all this time, but I drink a few beers every day; a glass of wine during dinner; and… one or two whiskey and cola before bed.
For years I grew my own vegetables; bred my chickens myself; and often ate too much and too greasy.
I am now 65 years old and feel great. Had to find a new doctor this week though, because sadly…..my doctor who is 65 years old has ALS and can barely speak and is paralyzed on the left side.
This is certainly not a plea for unhealthy living, but…. you also have to have strong genes and definitely have some luck. For the same money you could stand among the victims in Zaventem.
Live people, without exaggeration, but also without stress !!!!

Look, such a fund as the KWF has to manifest itself every now and then and then the result of a new study is published again, is partly based on fear generation, that information is very relative, a perfect explanation of the latter is given by Tino above.
Your healthy eating and drinking is utopian, almost everything you buy and consume is contaminated with all kinds of bad substances, especially the processed foods.
If you want something different, buy your organic products, Makro has everything in its range. Make a Greeny, maybe several times a week, put those vegetables, fruits, etc. in it and your body will thank you.
Try to do something about it, not excessively, everything in moderation, as so often, people who are busy all day with healthy ... healthy, that gives stress and that is one of the least healthy living conditions.
Do something about exercise according to your ability, about happiness, about pleasure and above all don't let yourself be guided and frightened by this kind of one-sided and incomplete information.
Wishing you much health and happiness.

Nice article, but as mentioned before, KWF wants and must score.
Isn't it true that body and mind should be in balance.
Our body has an incredible amount to process due to the negative effects of food and alcohol, as mentioned earlier.
Because much food has been and continues to be processed to such an extent, relatively little remains of the so-called healthy diet.
Wasn't it true that a few years ago it was actually encouraged and that it couldn't hurt to drink a glass of wine every day?
    So that is now obsolete.
If people are now also going to tell us how harmful Wi-Fi and mobile phone use is and that stress in many cases also has an enormously negative effect on our well-being, then we can start looking for solutions.
Now it's being swept under the carpet, unfortunately.
Indeed, organic greenies, a very good alternative.
