The idea that one glass of red wine would be good for your heart and blood vessels turns out to be incorrect. Moderate alcohol consumption also entails health risks.

This is the conclusion of a study published in the scientific journal 'The Lancet'. It looked at the alcohol consumption in 19 countries of more than half a million people, so falls in de Volkskrant to read. Erasmus MC, among others, is involved in the study, as are more than a hundred other universities.

The study mainly focuses on the risks for the heart and blood vessels. Opinions differed on this in the past. This new research shows that alcohol is always unhealthy, even just one drink.

everything and everyone contradict each other when it comes to alcohol. Two weeks ago I was at the cardiologist who told me that 1-2 glasses of red wine a day is good for me. What now?
I just listen to the cardiologist because here too: everything in moderation

My cardiologist told me that at first, but now he has pointed out to me several times that just 1 glass is already harmful to health and that he prefers that I stop completely.
I protested for the first time because first of all I don't drink every day and secondly I won't let myself be deprived of 2 glasses of good red wine but then enjoy it intensely.

All right, keep drinking. The doctors in Thailand are happy with it because extra customers means extra work and income. And happy faces at the pension funds because you die a few years earlier and therefore unpaid pension remains in the pot. And the nursing homes for people with Alzheimer's / Parkinson's are also happy with guests like you, because years of nursing for many thanks to alcohol consumption provide employment and good bonuses in these health centers for the people.

Of course and a new study in five years, it turns out that it is not so unhealthy after all.
I just have my beer and/or mixed drink when I feel like it because I enjoy it. And if that ultimately shortens my life, “so be it”. And now I'm going to have a nice beer, cheers!

I'm sure, but I'll have another one, just like my grandfathers who lived to be well into their nineties!

I drink a beer now and then and will continue to do so. But if you know a little bit about the human body, you know that the body sees alcohol as a foreign substance and reacts to it as it reacts to poisons and other harmful substances. Your liver is going crazy trying to break down alcohol and if it can't, your stomach will revolt and you'll puke it up. That says enough, I think.

I'd rather be 95 with a glass every day than 100 on a 'dry', ha, ha.

Isn't it amazing in this context that humanity is going and drinking more and more and getting older and older..

    • Khan Peter says up

Could that be due to drinking or other factors, such as better medicines and medical care?

      • Jan Hendriks says up

Many of the drugs are also harmful to the body and I have found. But due to replacement with natural supplements, I now only use the blood thinner Warfarin.

Lifestyle changes can help reduce or stop medication use. A recent good example is the treatment of type 2 diabetes, which affects more than 900.000 people in the Netherlands. By eating different foods and exercising (even moderately), 50 to 70 percent of people can manage with less or no medication.

No more alcohol, no soft drinks, no fruit juices, no spa red, no coffee, no tea, no milk.
Yes, even tap water is suspect.
    What can we actually drink?

    • Khan Peter says up

      Bottled water?

      • Leo Th. says up

But not from plastic bottles because that also seems to secrete certain substances that are not good.

Do not drink water alone any longer, but use a little wine for your stomach and your frequent infirmities.

"a little wine makes the heart glad"

And all those findings of 'experts', isn't it great…………

Advice from the creator who made man with all her mighty systems.

    Regards, KhunBram.

The Volkskrant article refers to the research that 1 alcoholic snack per day would reduce your lifespan by 1,3 years. Hmm, acceptable or not is the question? And is that 1,3 years less than the average age? Will I then be 78,7 years old?
Can the doctors also indicate how old I will be if I: do not smoke, eat healthy, exercise / exercise sufficiently, have a good BMI, do not experience stress, live in a healthy environment without pollution, etc. and also have safe sex?
Pff would be nice if I knew for every circumstance how many years that saves me from my life.
For the time being I will just assume a statistical life expectancy of 80 and make a choice for my way of life. Who knows, maybe I will still be 90 in good physical and mental health and also with great pleasure. With or without a drink, smoke, greasy snack, etc.
Lots of fun and enjoy life.

    • Ger Korat says up

It is not about 1 individual but about large groups of people. There will always be people who reach 100 despite smoking, drinking, etc. But also look at the other side. Know enough people who have not reached the age of 65 and if you look at how people lived then it is a matter of cause and effect. Sounds harsh, but that is what the statistics and reality indicate.

Red wine contains a substance that is good for your heart, but to have the effect you have to drink 7 liters of wine a day, your liver will probably not be able to handle it.

Today or tomorrow we all get a bar of 'astronaut food' with all the necessary nutrients and those who want something else are out of luck.
Almost all of us are now getting to the point where our main concern is how to slip away painlessly in due course.
Someone who does Havo and wants to drink a beer at his graduation party has long calculated that he will have to sit down at least twice.
No sugar, no salt, no fat, no alcohol, no tobacco, no meat, cooled drinks are also very bad, you can stir up the horrible IBS, cooked vegetables are also unnecessary, only raw vegetables, dairy is unnatural, abolish that mess, an egg is not part of it at all, and oh how happy we are today.

One day of work is even worse for your health.
What are we talking about. Enjoy life and enjoy it.

If I read all that, I must have been dead for 10 years. Am now 64 years young. Young indeed, feeling excellent, never sick and never hospitalized. Depends on your constitution. If not good health, then the advice is not to tempt fate and to live by it.

  14. ruud says up

I don't understand why people are so fussy about dying.
It happens to you eventually anyway, and once you're dead it doesn't matter – to you – how old you were when you died.
And the last years of life when you decide to get very old are usually not the best anyway.
Physically and mentally deteriorating, deaf and half blind in a chair, or your bed waiting for you to finally be allowed.
Have fun while you live, and accept that time, when life gets shorter.
