- Eric Kuypers: What's difficult about it? A tourist comes for a holiday and in most countries it is only short, max 30 days. People from the west
- Rob: Hello Frans, From May 10 you can pre-order it from the publisher. My email address is [email protected]
- Rob: The publisher is still working on the design and I don't know the sales price yet. It will be available for purchase from May 24. I will return in October
- Frank B.: Even though we plan to settle in Thailand and I have been following F70 since the early 1s, I hope this does not happen.
- Robert: Attract tourists? Then they could simplify the visa system a bit...
- Robert: I was in Thailand (near Ayutthaya) in January and March. I've traveled around that area a bit and am further north
- Ton Prangku: Bert, a university in Thailand has a different level than what we are used to here in Europe. We would call it secondary here
- Bert: Thanks for the nice tip! I also like to play games myself, but I don't know this one yet, I'll definitely take a look and see what it is
- Bert: Well, as far as I'm concerned, Bangkok or an expensive private one is not necessary, nor would it be practical since it is a good 500km away from here
- French: PS Rob, your email address is not in your article so I cannot email you my order. I don't see it on the book scout website
- French: Good storyteller! I'm going to order.
- Rene Mulder: Hi Rob. Seems like a nice book to me. But how much does the book cost and where do you send the book from because I live in Pattaya.
- Gerd H: Spend this money for such a ridiculous project on fighting poverty for people who really need it!
- Jack S: In Bangkok there is less of a rise in the sea than a drop in the land. The city stands on soft ground and this is
- Jan Beute: And not to forget the consequences for the requirements for retirement visa extension. 800K in a joint account is not allowed

Home » History » Siam/Thailand 1900-1960 (video)
In this video you see old images of Thailand (Siam). These photos are always fun to look at for those interested.
The photos are from the period 1900-1960 and are shown with molam music in the background. It is striking at that time that most Thai women did not wear long hair (or wore it up). Maybe that has to do with the fashion image or maybe it wasn't decent? Who knows may say.
In any case, looking at these old images is always fun.
Enjoy historical images from Siam.

Watch the video here:
MIGHTY!!!
Was born in the wrong country.
Haha Brad,
Not only in the wrong country... but maybe also born in the wrong era 🙂
Indeed … beautiful video!
Thank you
Very nice to see.
The time when Thailand was still really Thailand, but the same also applies to the Netherlands or Belgium 60 years ago.
Said in Flemish:
“nice to see”
At 6 minutes 23 a piece about Songkhran is shown.
It looks like there was already quite a bit of water being played and thrown
a surprise. would this video be for sale somewhere?
Try it with me. 🙂
Fransamsterdam, do you have that video?
Maybe I'm missing something, but he's just on YouTube, right?
Or maybe something was left out in your first response?
For Windows, for example, download and install the free YTD (YouTube Downloader) or VDownloader (Video Downloader) application. For Android, for example, download and install the free Tubemate application.
Then copy and paste the link to this video in the search line of the application and you can download the video.
Good luck and enjoy.
Why for sale? You can download the movie from Youtube for free…
Very nice video, enjoyed watching it. Gives you a completely different impression of Bangkok / Thailand then and now.
The short hair of the Siamese woman dates back to the time of the Thai-Burmese wars.
Enemy scouts were tricked into making it look like a city was being defended by
many men.
The short hair of the Danes was part of the Westernization campaign of the then dictator Phibul Songkram, who wanted the population to adopt Western social customs, because he considered the Thai to be a backward people. Ladies had to wear shoes, hats, gloves and western clothes. Men were advised to give their wives a good-bye kiss before leaving for the office. Korton he laid the foundation for modern Western manners. Many do not know it, but it is Phibul Songkram who taught the Thai to eat with a spoon and fork. Many social customs that we consider typically Thai were implemented by him in the 50s. It is also he who forced the ethnic Chinese to choose a Thai family name.
It was quite common for Chinese traders to set fire to their business around Chinese New Year to swindle insurance. He solved this very simply. He went to the scene and personally shot 3 traders in the head. The arson attacks stopped. He himself was ethnic Chinese. He has been in power 2X, after banishment. He was finally overthrown by Sarit Thannarat, another colorful dictator, who reshaped the role of the monarchy by reintroducing abolished ceremonies and inventing some new ones. It is also he who reintroduced the postal street abolished by Rama V.
Phibul was dictator from 1938 to 1944.
In this clip from 1919, you can see that the female guests who come to visit already wear short hair.
For the Western world, the clothing and hairstyle of women at the time was certainly remarkable, as witnessed by the text at 2:02: “All ladies, though they don't wear skirts and do cut their hair.”
In any case, Phibul has not introduced that.
Bjorn's explanation seems more plausible.

Our friend Plaek (meaning 'Strange', a name people preferred not to mention) Phibunsongkhraam ('phibun' means 'entirely, perfect, much, abundant' and 'songkhraam' means 'war') also propagated the noodle soup and banned betel chewing. How beautiful that pure Thai culture is!
But, dear Henry, I think those executions in arson are on Sarit Thanarat, right?
I moved here in 1976 and much of it was still the same as on that video. As a sailor, I came to the Far East from the 60s. This video gives me an immense nostalgia for this bygone era. That was enjoying life back then. Have many wonderful memories here too.
I can well imagine that. Back then, as a Western person, you were also an attraction. That was already in the 80s, when I first came here.
I myself am happy with the present, the past is over, the future is yet to come….for me NOW is the best of all times, because at least there is.
Good day, nice movie….no high-rise buildings in Thailand yet….only old building that is still recognizable is Hua Lampong….nothing else recognizable…..probably all already demolished….very unfortunate…..oh no the bridge is under construction there too.
Greetings, Joe
