In Thailand we have three branches of the Dutch Association Thailand, namely in Pattaya, Bangkok and Hua Hin. Although their membership base clearly differs, these social clubs are very similar in one important thing.

With a certain regularity, all three have to deal with a management crisis. This time it's Bangkok's turn. Due to differences of opinion within the already shortened board, the Chairman, also Secretary, Jaap van de Meulen has decided to stop his activities for the association.

The latest Newsletter from NVT Bangkok states:

“Our chairman, Jaap van der Meulen, has announced that he will leave the board on March 15, 2019 and step down as secretary and chairman. The board understands and respects its decision. In addition to these official functions, Jaap van der Meulen was also active in many other areas within and outside the association. For example, he stimulated various sponsors and was the driving force behind the large open-air events of our association such as the Vrijmarkt and other annual parties. He maintained contacts with our embassy and sister organizations and was therefore also the face of our association both internally and externally. He was also always present at the commemorations of death at the embassy and in Kanchanaburi. The board of the Dutch Association Thailand wishes to express its great appreciation for his unbridled efforts and involvement and looks forward to meeting him often in Bangkok.”

A pity of course, but undoubtedly the gap caused by this chairman will soon be filled again until the next crisis.
