Message from the Dutch embassy in Bangkok:

On May 4, we commemorate all – civilians and military – who have been killed or killed in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere in the world since the outbreak of the Second World War, in war situations and during peacekeeping operations.

This year we are doing that in an adapted form because of the Coronavirus.

The corona measures do not make an event with an audience possible this year. On Monday 4 May, the embassy, the Dutch Association of Thailand and NVT Pattaya, the NTCC – Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Thailand Business will each place a wreath near the flag in the embassy garden.

Afterwards, between 15 and 17 pm, the embassy offers interested parties the opportunity to come by for an individual moment of commemoration, and possibly to lay flowers themselves. Visitors are urged to keep a sufficient distance from others and to leave the embassy grounds after a few minutes of reflection. Those interested can use the entrance on Wireless Road. Pre-registration is not necessary. However, identification may be requested.

The website of the National Committee for 4 and 5 May contains suggestions on how to commemorate at home (www.4en5mei.nl/nieuws/nieuwsbericht/369)

The National Commemoration on Dam Square in Amsterdam will also take place in an adapted form, without an audience. In the Netherlands, the public is called upon to follow the commemoration at home via television or online.

  1. Hans Bosch says up

The embassy has overlooked the fact that there is also a Dutch association in Hua Hin/Cha Am. This one will therefore also lay a wreath on May 4th.
