Home » Expats and retirees » emigrate » Unrest, lack of space and mentality are reasons for the Dutch to emigrate
Of future emigrants, 24% are looking for more peace, space and a natural environment for the education of their children, 23% are fed up with the bad mentality in the Netherlands, 16% leave for another job and also 16% to enjoy their retirement.
The migrant crisis appears to be a reason for 13% to leave the Netherlands. Crime and congestion play a smaller role at 5% and 3%.
Research among 11.000 visitors to the upcoming Emigration Fair shows this. The fair will take place in Expo Houten (Utrecht) on 13 and 14 February, and asked ticket buyers for the reason for departure.
Of the total population, 2 to 3% are seriously considering emigrating abroad. Approximately 148.000 people per year now emigrate from the Netherlands, which is 405 per day. That is 41% more than 10 years ago. (Source: CBS, 2015).
In general, emigrants are positive, adventurous and looking for a better quality of life. However, negative external factors also play a role in the decision to leave the Netherlands.
Ah, the gray always seems greener at the neighbors! People should do what they want. Some succeed in the new country and some do not. This also applies to those who build up their existence in the Netherlands. As long as you get happy.
I am Belgian and have been living in Hua Hin for a year and a half now, and I certainly did not leave Antwerp because it was so bad, my reasons were to retire and have to make do with that lower income, the climate and my Thai wife.
It is a fact that the mentality in our regions is deteriorating, but it did not bother me, our mentality is that we like to grumble, if I meet other expats here it is no different.
I was not bothered by the excess of immigrants in Belgium, although I also think there are too many, too many with an intrusive culture.
The decision was therefore purely inspired by the above, and I must say, I have not regretted it for a moment, last year in September we went on holiday to Belgium for three weeks, the whole time I wondered what we were doing there. visiting the family outside, gray weather also played tricks on us, no, life is much better here in Hua Hin and suits are cheaper, the pension is more than enough here, I can even save and never or rarely gray weather.
Of course there are things that disturb me, such as traffic and pollution, but I have to accept that.
If I remember correctly, we had the same discussion on this topic a few weeks ago.
Often a lot is different in the new country, but if you look around carefully, and are realistic, not much better.
To function properly and to have a real opinion about the new country of choice, one must at least master the language. If the latter is not the case, much remains based on fantasy, conjecture, and rose-tinted glasses.
I wonder what the cabinet will do about this because this is not a good report figure for the economic climate in the Netherlands. It should concern them that this large group of Dutch people do not want to spend their old age in the Netherlands, behind the geraniums, or languish in a home.
Also worrying for us emigrants, because they are often dependent on benefits from the Netherlands and this could just be another reason for this great cabinet to cut even more, because the state treasury is becoming less full and the costs are increasing. more with Ford of Europe etc.
