An initiative has been launched to identify individuals who are eligible for pension or survivor benefits, but have so far been unable to locate them. This project, supported by the RvIG (National Service for Identity Data), focuses on tracing these rights holders.

This involves a significant number of people and a substantial amount of money. If these persons cannot be traced, the money in question will be added to the general pension fund, benefiting the located beneficiaries.

This action stems from various reports about the existence of pensions for which the entitled persons cannot be found. This often raises the question of whether someone may still be entitled to a pension. Unfortunately, there is no central point where these questions can be answered in a bundled manner. However, one can take the following steps:

  1. Visit mypensioenoverzicht.nl to see if there is a pension in your name.
  2. If you expect that you are entitled to a pension, but do not see this on the website, please contact the pension fund where you may have accrued a pension. You can easily find these funds online. Having an old pension statement or pay slip showing pension contributions can make the search process easier.
  3. If it is unclear in which sector you worked, you can use the tool 'Which pension fund do I belong to??' at bijwelkpensioenfondshoorik.nl. Although primarily developed for employers to find the right pension fund for their employees, anyone can use this tool to find out which pension funds can be contacted.
  4. If you have built up a pension with an insurance company that no longer exists, you can contact De Nederlandsche Bank for information https://www.dnb.nl/betrouwbare-financiele-sector/polis-zoek-verzekeraar-kwijt/. Normally you can find these pensions on mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl, unless no BSN/Sofi number was available at the time.

The GOED Foundation easily ignores the question of where unclaimed pension goes. There is a discussion about this that you can read on the pension federation's website. After all, there are funds that pay it out to the heirs and that seems much fairer to me than booking it to the 'general pension fund', whatever that may be; that name means nothing to me.

After I received a letter from the ABP about my pension as a postman when I was 15 years old, I started looking further in the pension funds.
mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl, only mention my last 2 pensions, but I have changed employers many times after being a postman for 13 months.
If I could earn a buck a week more somewhere, I would go...
Many pension funds that I emailed came with questions about a pay slip or orange card?
I thought that by stating my BSN, the old Social Security number, I could easily be found by the various funds.
It's now a month later and not yet 1 positive message from a pension fund.

Unclaimed pensions remain the property of the relevant pension fund. This is part of the collective solidarity that also remains in the new pension system.
Only in the context of the survivor's pension can your legal partner, provided this has been agreed with the fund, claim the survivor's pension if someone is really missing, the pension federation will work hard to ensure this.
Other heirs never received anything from a deceased person's pension and that will remain the case in the future.
