Tom Yum, a spicy Thai cocktail

Tom Yum is not only the name of a spicy clear soup from Thai cuisine, there is also a tasty spicy cocktail with the same name.

There's nothing like enjoying the breathtaking view of Phang Nga Bay and the rock formations in the distance with a Tom Yum cocktail in your hand.

The secret of the drink is TomYam syrup made from a well-guarded recipe, but you can replace that with palm sugar syrup. To enhance the aroma, mix some extra makrut, lemongrass, galangal and ginger into the cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1 Makrut lime leaf
  • 1 stalk chopped lemongrass (chopped, hard outer shell removed)
  • 100 milliliters of fresh lime juice
  • 175 milliliters Beluga vodka
  • 75 milliliters of Cointreau
  • 75 milliliters Palm sugar syrup (equal parts palm sugar and water, boiled and cooled)
  • Garnish: lime slice
  • Garnish: red chili pepper

Preparation

  • Add the makrut lime leaf, lemongrass and lime juice to a shaker and mix gently.
  • Add the vodka, Cointreau, palm sugar syrup and ice and shake until well chilled.
  • Use a cocktail strainer and pour into a cocktail glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a lime slice and red chilli on a bamboo skewer.

Thanks for this recipe. Hopefully it will help suppress the homesickness for Thailand.
