Thailand is world famous when it comes to "street food". Small places on the sidewalks or in narrow alleys, where you can have a bite to eat (usually) Thai. Extremely popular with both Thais and tourists.

Tradition

One could call “preparing food on the street” a Thai tradition, but the government is striving to improve the image, because the hygiene and other conditions of those food stalls often leave much to be desired. The development of the increasingly popular food trucks is therefore encouraged.

The food truck

There is actually no good Dutch translation of food truck. The best is to think of a mobile kitchen, snack bar, coffee bar, cocktail bar or ice cream cart.

Just like in the Netherlands and Belgium, you see more and more food trucks (an easy word!) and in Thailand, too, you increasingly see a colorfully converted pick-up or van in busy places such as markets and at (sports) events. , where you can buy a snack or drink. Here in Thailand I have seen food trucks with products such as ice cream, coffee, cocktails, sushi, burgers, tacos, satay and even fries that you can eat or drink while sitting or standing. No insects yet, you will have to buy them from the carts on the street.

The “World's Largest Parade of Food Trucks”

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Food Truck Club (Thailand), will organize a major food truck event on March 7 and 8 next in IMPACT Lakeside, Muang Thong Tani under the name of the “World's Largest Parade of Food Trucks”. More than 200 food trucks will be present there, all of which will offer their own product, but where there will also be an opportunity to get more information for starting entrepreneurs.

Food Truck Club (Thailand)

Indeed, the number of food trucks in Thailand is steadily increasing and there is now an interest group called Food Trucks Club (Thailand). According to this club, more than 1500 food trucks are now active in Thailand, of which about 700 are now members of this organization. The Food Truck Club considers it its mission to help entrepreneurs set up and organize a business with a food truck. Not only the entrepreneurs themselves are important, but also the suppliers of the vehicle, the products to be sold and targeted marketing. Finally

Below is a short video about food trucks. Although a lot of Thai is spoken in it, I really liked the images of colorful food trucks.
