Satay - grilled chicken or pork pieces

A popular street food dish in Thailand is Satay, grilled chicken or pork pieces on a stick, served with sauce and cucumber.

Satay is a popular dish in Thailand and is often served as street food. The dish consists of marinated meat, usually chicken or pork, grilled on a stick over charcoal and served with a peanut sauce and a cucumber and onion salad.

The Thai version of satay has a distinctive flavor that differs from other Southeast Asian countries. The meat is usually marinated with turmeric, cumin and coriander, which gives it a spicy and aromatic flavour. The peanut sauce is also flavored with Thai spices such as galangal, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves, which gives it a unique flavor that pairs perfectly with the grilled meat.

The pieces of meat on a stick are usually served with peanut sauce. The marinade varies by street vendor, but it's usually a good balance of sweet and spicy. Tip: also try Moo Ping or grilled pork skewer, which is a more popular local dish.

There are many satay variations, so you can choose from chicken, pork, beef, buffalo meat or fish balls. During grilling, various spices or marinades are applied to the meat, making it extra juicy.

Usually the satay is grilled on the spot and often sold per 15 skewers. When you buy it, you also get some satay dipping sauce along with some spices and veggies. Price: 60 THB for 15 sticks.

    Definitely recommended.
At my last visit to our Isaan village I ate satay with fried rice (khauw phat) every day for 3 months.
Apart from the frozen dishes from the 7 / 11, there was not much edible food for me in the village.
It was a street stall in a village.
I always asked freshly grilled and told that I would pick up the sate in 20 minutes.
Always with the indication that I wanted the souk souk. (well cooked).
That well done sometimes turns out to be half done in Isaan.
We couldn't manage the 60 baht for 15 sticks.
I bought 6 sticks for 100 baht, which was also the price for the locals.
The satay sauce was fine, and not too hot.
I also put a supply in the fridge and had a small steamer to be able to eat the next day as well. Steaming the meat well can do no harm, especially when the electricity has failed at night and the fridge has been out for about 6 hours. had to brave the heat without cooling.

Now let this be one of my favorite dishes in Thailand. I can keep having fun with that.

Hopefully this is a healthy snack without too many added sugars 😉

"Price: 60 THB for 15 sticks."
You write it very well: '60THB for 15 STICKS'…. you still have to buy and grill the meat yourself… You only have the sticks…
