After months of counting down, Saturday, October 18, the holiday to Thailand finally arrived. Finally let things go again and enjoy all the beautiful and delicious things Thailand has to offer for 3,5 weeks. After a few days in Pattaya, now a few days in Bangkok and from tomorrow to Udon Thani.

Restaurant with a European menu

Today I visited a friend who has been living in Bangkok for four years now. He lives in Sukhumvit soi 101/1 and we were supposed to have dinner there too. However, the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed, so on to another restaurant. He remembered that a new restaurant was about to open, so let's take a look there.

Coincidentally, it had just opened that day. It looked very cozy, but you could clearly see that the opening date was perhaps a bit too early. Not everything was finished yet, but it's all about the food after all. We thought it would be a Thai restaurant, but it turned out to be a restaurant with a European menu.

Dutch Bitterballen was on the menu as a starter. When we asked about it, it turned out that the owner was from the Netherlands, to be precise from Schagen, the town where I have been working for fifteen years. How small the world can be.

The menu also offers a variety of starters, soups, main courses and desserts. We ordered lasagna, chicken breast with coriander sauce and spare ribs. Plus a Caesar salad. All I can say is that the food was really tasty and it was presented beautifully.

As amuse we got a spicy minced meat snack, which was also very tasty. The portions were sufficient. For all this, including five beers and two soft drinks, we spent 1500 baht. We found the price-quality ratio very good and will return here more often.

Dots on the i

After dinner we talked for a while with the sympathetic owner. In terms of design and finishing, the finishing touches have to be done in the coming weeks, but then I think he has a business with potential. There is a beautiful garden, so if desired you can also eat outside.

So if you don't feel like Thai food, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. When you enter Sukhumvit soi 101/1 it is after about 100 meters on the left. Soon there will also be a sign on the outside with the name of the restaurant on it. The name of the restaurant: 101. To be clear: in Bangkok.

You can't start too early with it: the Sinterklaas gift. Or the Christmas gift for under the Christmas tree. No idea yet? How about 157 pages with 43 stories about the Land of Smiles. In other words, the new book from Thailand blog Charity 'Exotic, bizarre and enigmatic Thailand'. Order now, so you won't forget it later. Also as an ebook. Click here for the order method.

    Restaurant 101;
    I had a delicious meal here for 650 baht with my girlfriend/and even gave a tip for the good service. Those who prefer to drink beer with 2 straws from a bottle of beer, better go to a stall outside around the corner! I sometimes get so tired of those "owl whiners". This Dutchman, whom I respect for daring to take this step, must also pay his rent/staff and hope to have some baths left at the end of a long day!
