You can of course eat delicious food everywhere in Bangkok, including on the street. But it can happen that you want to dine exuberant and luxurious and you don't do that alone, because you're busy for about two hours when you eat one of the buffets; preferably in the evening because then you go to bed right after.

Those buffets generally offer about 30-40 different dishes with, for example, fried foie gras (poor animals), crab, lobster, oysters, mussels, huge pieces of roast beef, leg of lamb, sushi, smoked or baked salmon, Parma ham, all kinds of vegetable and fruit dishes, many desserts, French cheeses, etc. etc. in a luxurious setting with a string or piano in the background here and there.

The highlights are the Dome, Sathon road and then you have a view over the whole of Bangkok and Oriental, located right on the river. The prices are also around 5000 Baht. or more. Even the king sometimes came to eat in the Dome. But you can't get in with sandals. I remember the bizarre or rather decadent story of a friend of mine who wanted to have dinner there with his Thai girlfriend but was refused entry because of his footwear. The (wealthy) girlfriend immediately went to buy him new shoes and they had an exuberant dinner that same evening with a happy ending, of course.

Next to the legendary Oriental hotels the Shangri-La hotel is located with a buffet of about 3.000 Baht on the terrace right on the river. It is very romantically located overlooking all that illuminated boat traffic on the Chao Phraya River. Buffets between 1.600 and 1.900 Baht are also fantastic and you wonder what can top that with the food.

The Erawan on Ratchadamri road at that famous intersection is a classic, also the whole setting and architecture, which is neo-classical with all those huge pillars. It is the best buffet of the series that follows.

The Nai Lert (Swissotel) in Whittayuu road located on a tropical garden with swimming pool and the famous 'penis' garden. You imagine yourself in an expensive resort somewhere far outside Bangkok in the middle of nature.

Then we get the Marriott on the corner of soi 2 Sukhumvit road, also voted annually as one of the best buffets in the city.

A little further along Sukhumvit between soi 4 and 6 is the Landmark located with an extensive buffet and their specialty compared to the other buffets is the countless delicious desserts. Their promotion is if you come with 4 people you only pay for two; yes, really, chin chin, may kohok.
In the same neighborhood, behind the Landmark, Sukhumvit Grande has a good value buffet, but clearly less than the others.

I assume that the readers of this blog sometimes go out for dinner in the Netherlands or Flanders, where a simple mussel meal with fries and a few beers, plus coffee will also cost you about 30 euros. When you realize that, you will be even less sorry to pay for such a buffet at the end of the evening.

    Hello.
I'm a little surprised that you don't mention the Sukhotai's Sunday afternoon buffet.
    Greetings

Via eatigo.com you can get up to 5% discount on buffets and brunches at most 50-star hotels. You have to book in advance and during off-peak hours eg 11.30 am or 14.30 pm or in the evening eg at 18.00 pm there is usually a 50% discount. I have had good experiences at the Feast restaurant of the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel where you can eat both indoors and outdoors and where you have a beautiful view of the Chayo Praya river. I can also recommend the buffet restaurant of the Swissotel Le Concorde in Ratchada where for 1800 baht ++ (approx. 1000 baht discount deducted) you have an incredibly extensive range including Thai, New Zealand and French oysters, lobster, tiger prawns, foie gras, a japanese space and everything you can imagine up to and including a nice assortment of french cheeses and a beautiful dessert buffet. Furthermore, the sparkling wine 'at will' is included in the price. The last time we rented a minivan from Hua Hin with a small group to make it a gastronomic experience. After this feast you will be brought home safely.

You can also enjoy excellent buffets in various price ranges in Pattaya. You really don't have to go to Bangkok for that unless you are attracted by the location of the eatery or by a more expensive or more luxurious buffet. Quality and ambiance obviously play a major role. Everything has its price, doesn't it?
