We wrote an article about it before the 10 best street dishes. Although you will find excellent food outlets all over Bangkok, we can recommend a few.

In the West, eating on the street is quickly associated with a 'quick bite' from the chip shop. In Thailand is that different. On the street you can get really excellent meals. Freshly prepared, healthy and sublime in taste.

Tastier than in a restaurant

From sunrise to late in the evening, the street chefs are busy making their specialty with a lot of love and care. The Thai, rich and poor, like to stand in line for their favorite street dish. Most Thai believe that the food on the street tastes better than the food in some restaurants. Do you want to experience Thailand in all its facets? Therefore, eat regularly on the street. Where? We give you four suggestions where you can eat well.

Chinatown
It will come as no surprise to you that this area is known for its delicious and varied food. What you may not know is that the best food here is not Chinese, but traditional Thai and Thai-Chinese. The range is huge and the exotic scents meet you. Yawolat, the Main Street, is known for its seafood, but wander down the side streets to find an extensive selection of Isaan food. Includes fried chicken and fried noodle according to Isaan's recipe. You will find a wide variety of dishes, including noodles, grilled seafood, and dim sum. Especially at night when the streets come alive with food stalls.

Khao San Road
This famous tourist street also has a wide variety of food stalls. Here you can find Thai classics as well as international dishes, such as pad thai, green curry, and spicy papaya salad.

Thong Lor
On this narrow strip of stalls just off the main road, you will find the widest selection of Thai food and even some Japanese dishes. Here you can try everything. By pad thai to I'm there en kao new (glutinous rice) with mango. It's all dirt cheap, the ideal opportunity to taste everything. You can find the food stalls just outside the Thong Lor skytrain station. Only open in the evening.

Lumphini park
Also visit Ratchadamri Road, just outside Lumphini Park. This is the place to go for authentic Isan cuisine. It is very busy with locals which is usually a good sign. That also means that the dishes are quite spicy. Too sharp for our western stomachs. Order your dish “mai phet” or “mai ow phet”, which means “not spicy”. Both the atmosphere and the food are excellent. It is easy to reach by BTS skytrain, get off at Ratchadamri station

Victory Memorial
There is a large street market on the edge of the roundabout at the Victory Monument (named 'Victory Point'). You will find a variety of street vendors, terraces and other eateries. Ideal for a casual and tasteful dinner. Here you will mainly find the typical Thai noodle and rice dishes. But also some delicacies intended for schoolchildren and students that you will often find on the market, such as waffles on sticks.

Ratchawat Market and Sriyan Market
These two nearby markets are popular with locals and offer an authentic dining experience. You can enjoy freshly prepared dishes such as stewed duck, boat noodles and mango sticky rice.

Chatuchak Weekend Market
During the weekend, this huge market is the perfect place to shop and enjoy street food. You will find a wide variety of Thai and international dishes, as well as delicious snacks and drinks.

Sukhumvit soi 38 is now an apartment complex and there is no stall there anymore.

  2. Louis says up

Action has been taken for some time to curb the proliferation of street food stalls. The supply of street food in Bangkok has therefore been greatly reduced.

What you say is correct. They want to improve hygiene. A connection for running water is required for washing up. The top of the tables must be made of stainless steel in the future. Dishes prepared at home in the morning should be kept refrigerated and reheated later. There are costs involved that exceed the benefits. Rents in Bangkok are sky high!
In addition, Thailand wants to focus on the more wealthy tourist in the future and you will not find them for a quick bite at a shaky table.
In a good restaurant where not only Thai dishes are available. So more choice.
