Phuket is great! Tourist tips from an expat
Phuket is great and I'll tell you why. Phuket has a lot to offer for beach lovers, but also for tourists who are not interested in beaches.
While on a boat trip with friends to James Bond Island and Koh Panyee (the floating village of the Sea Gypsy's) I think to myself, I'm not bad living here. And as a Phuket connoisseur, I have some good tips for tourists.
Ya Nui
At the top of the list of must-see beaches is Ya Nui. One of the quietest beaches in southwest Phuket. Ya Nui offers you absolute world class snorkeling, kayaking and other beach entertainment. All this for relatively low prices.
Cape Panwa
Another tip: the eastern shores of Cape Panwa. This area has a number of fun attractions that should be on every To-Do tourist list. Visit the Phuket Aquarium, including the nature trail along the beach that connects the aquarium to the Phuket Marine Biological Center. There you can see small sea turtles. Stop at Ao Yon and enjoy a drink on the beach under the shady trees. Then visit Khao Kad on the way home for a magnificent view of the city of Phuket.
Sea shells
From Promthep Cape you can see an island whose name I don't know, but I call it 'Buddha Island'. In this quiet place there is a monastery with friendly and curious monks. But also the largest number of seashells I've ever seen. If you don't know exactly where to go, ask one of the monks. He will point it out to you, that's how I found it.
Don't want a beach? Then visit Khao Phra Taew National Park where you can hike to the Bang Pae waterfall and see gibbons in the wild. It is one of the last rainforests in Phuket. The central part of the park is beautiful and deserted.
Rang and the Toh Sae Hills in Phuket Town are great for a nice picnic. In both places you will find beautiful untouched nature, beautiful views and monkeys in the wild.
Now you probably understand why Phuket is great!
