The ferry to Phuket

If you go to Phuket by car or by bus, you will cross a bridge that connects Phuket to the mainland of Phnang Nga province, because Phuket is an island. It is the 700m Thepkasattri Bridge, over which road number 402 runs, which was completed in 2011. Next to it is the old bridge, Saphan Sarasin, which was the first fixed connection ever, built in 1967. Until the construction of that bridge.

Phuket Gazette posted a beautiful photo from 1955 showing the ferry that maintained the connection from Phuket to the mainland until the construction of that first bridge. In my opinion, the ferry is very similar to the ferries that serve in the Netherlands, such as over the IJ in Amsterdam. Little is known about that ferry, neither about the vessel itself nor how the crossing was organised.

Phuket Gazette wondered in a caption if there are fans of Phuket's history who can tell more about it. Of course I searched the internet myself, but unfortunately I couldn't find any details about that historic ferry.

If there are any blog readers out there who know more about it, their response would be greatly appreciated.
