The island Koh Samui belongs to the province of Surat Thani and is about 400 kilometers from Bangkok. Koh Samui is one of the most visited islands in Thailand.

Accommodations for travelers are plentiful, ranging from small bungalows to exclusive villas on the island.

Samui's busiest beaches lie on the northern and eastern coasts. Most popular are Chawaeng and Lamai Beach. Bophut and Mae Nam are other popular beaches.

Well worth a visit is the Ang Thong Marine Park with 40 beautiful idyllic islands, about two hours by boat from Koh Samui.

Koh Samui can be reached by ferry, speedboat or car ferry from Ban Don (Surat Thani town) and Don Sak (Khanom district). Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways fly daily from Bangkok to Koh Samui. AirAsia flies directly to Surat Thani from where you can take the ferry to Koh Samui.

We went there on vacation a few years ago. Was indeed a pleasant experience. I found the airport very cosy, nice and old-fashioned and small-scale.

I have lived here for 9 years now. For me still one of the most beautiful places in Thailand.
