Applying for an annual extension on a non-immigrant O visa for the first time

As I mentioned two weeks ago, I would like to extend my stay in Thailand for a year extension and I had been to the immigration office in Kaemphang Phet for information to ask what papers I needed. The sequel went as follows.

First requested the letter of support from the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok. Followed the instructions on the website, sent the application by post and transferred the 50 euros via ING. Exactly 1 week later I received the letter of support by post.

Meanwhile looking for a doctor for a health certificate. There was no doctor in the local emergency health center so I was sent to the local hospital. Reported to the desk what I was coming to do and whether there was a doctor who could examine me? At first the lady at the desk didn't really know what to do, but she was able to immediately tell us how much a statement cost.. (funny) Then it turned out that I was the first European to come to their hospital for a health statement and that was first called the immigration office in Kaemphang Phet to ask what investigations they required. My girlfriend and I were also photographed by this lady with a big smile for their archive, as proof that they had a Farang at home for an inspection.

In the end, various departments were visited, such as the lab for blood sampling, the X-ray for a lung X-ray, and a conversation with the doctor who started working with the stethoscope. This doctor asked me only three questions and proceeded to fill out the statement form. All this took an hour and a half, without an appointment in advance. After paying 500 baht, we were able to collect the statement two days later. Furthermore I needed:

  • A completed form TM7 with passport photo.
  • Copy of passport with all stamps and visa.
  • Copy ID of my girlfriend.
  • Copy Tambien Baan.
  • Sketch of the road to our house.
  • Copy bank book.

So we drove to Kaemphang Phet again yesterday (80km) to submit the application. The office is not very big there, I saw 7 people working there, each one had a sign with their specialty on it. For example, there was a table for the extension request, one for the 90-day notification, one for the re-entry request. There were no real counters, just queue at a desk.

I had also filled out a TM8 form in advance for my re-entry because I will be going back to NL in the spring of 2020 and then returning to Thailand for the winter period at the beginning of October.

Everything has been checked and approved. They were very helpful with everything. After everything was entered into the computer, my data was printed and I was asked if everything was correct.. and indeed.. my passport number was entered incorrectly and my nationality was changed to German.. instead of Dutch. So that was corrected. After about two hours we were outside with the necessary stamps.

I would especially like to thank Ronny LatYa for all the advice he has given over the past few months. I have read them all and have certainly benefited from them.

Reaction RonnyLatYa

All's well that ends well.

Especially the first time, it's always a bit of a wait and see how things go locally. Good preparation often makes the difference and you had that by gathering information in advance (see ref).

I am especially glad that someone takes the trouble to report afterwards how it all went.

Thanks.

That health declaration is, as Ronny indicated earlier, clearly a local requirement. I haven't been confronted with that yet, but you never know what surprises the next extension will bring. If necessary, I still know a doctor here who only asks if you are healthy before signing………

Even a doctor's statement is not accepted at immigration Koh Samui.
It must be a statement from a hospital. Bandon hospital 250 baht.

Visited last week for a year extension and multiple re-entry stamp.
Annual extension 1900 baht Multiple re-entry 3800 baht. Added together 6000 baht.
Definitely a broken calculator. 😉 Last year they did that too. 300 baht bribe probably.
The fat troll at the long-term counter was not fond of contradiction.
Items handed in on Tuesday. Pick up your passport again next Monday.
It takes a week to put 2 stamps.
We can't make it more fun….It can be harder.

Leo, I assume you are talking about an Extension of Stay with a NON Immigrant OA?
The 'new' requirement regarding Health Insurance… how does Koh Samui deal with that…?

      • Leo says up

        Karel: it concerns a non-immigrant O visa.

''Heath Insurance'' is not yet discussed.

Has the doctor's certificate from the Bandon hospital
        besides, nothing about it:
Blood pressure is measured, you are weighed and the doctor
asks: ''Is everything okay?'' And signs and stamps the statement.
        250 baht… quickly earned 🙂

I also don't quite understand what your girlfriend has to do with your year extension. If you were married, I would still understand, but there is no administrative connection with a girlfriend anyway.

    • RonnyLatYa says up

Is it forbidden to bring your girlfriend?

      And no administrative bond?
What about the ID and Tabien Baan of his girlfriend where he lives.

Ronny, I need to get this out. Your expertise in all things immigration is one and beyond question, but I also always enjoy your unadulterated straightforward comments and reactions. There is no in-between.
