Notification: Jan Si Thep

Subject: Immigration Phetchabun

Extension of visa based on Thai marriage – Phetchabun office. The extension expires on May 28. This is the 2nd time I've applied so I started on time. First to the amphur to get a new certificate that we are still married. This is ready in 10 minutes. The 1st time we received a checklist of the documents that we must provide:

  • Passport: departure card, copy ALL pages, + registration blue booklet.
  • Marriage certificate: Kor2 and Kor3; + the annual certificate of marriage (duplicate Kor2 signed by amphur).
  • Woman: ID card, blue booklet house registration + resident registration, name change certificate.
  • Daughter: birth certificate, resident registration.
  • Bank: copy 1st page bank book with name and account number; letter bank, update bank book.
  • Photos: together in front of the house, in front of the door with address, in the house on the couch.
  • 2 passport photos and 1.900 baht.
  • Map of the village.
  • Application form

As an extra, a learning point from the first time, also the certificate of my wife's name change in the past.

May 8 went to the immigration office in Phetchabun. This is a small office that works for Chang Mai. In itself the staff is helpful although the English is very poor. First to the bank branch in Phetchabun. The letter must be from the same day because it must be forwarded to Chang Mai and may not be older than 7 days upon arrival.

Control of all forms. Not all pages of the passport copied, copy of passbook was not clear enough. Because we come from far away, they were willing to copy it on the spot, for a fee. Again have to fill out an application by hand. The office has a version with a stamp where you have to enter email, Facebook and line ID. Sign additional statement for overstay consequences. Draw a map on a separate form. And sign all copies on the spot. After more than an hour, the paperwork was in order.
Ok, says the manager, see you next month number 28. But that's more than 7 weeks later! Than we have for sure, but you can call before.

Will we still get a check-up at home like the first time? Not sure, depends on Chang Mai's office.

The question was asked about whether the bank balance for a marriage extension must also remain fixed for 3 months after the application, the same as with a retirement visa. The answer was: same, same.

This office also offers an extra service. For 1.000 baht, they send the new form home by registered mail every 90 days. You don't have to go to the office or problems with the mail. Probably not an official service, I don't get a receipt for it either.

Now the last time came too late and I wasn't that keen on it either. So I was in violation I said if I had been checked by a cop. Don't worry, no problem. I would say that too.

Another question asked if I am on koh tao for 2 months and actually have to report for 90 days. Should I do that on Koh Samui? Answer: no, we take care of you.

Questions for Ronny.

  1. What is the usual lead time for a new extension approval? I thought a month, also given the stamp of under consideration that is valid one month after the extension has ended. So if I had come on May 27, it should be ready by June 28 at the latest.
  2. Is it correct for the bank balance for Marriage extension. Fixed 3 months after application?
  3.  I searched on the immigration website, with the language ENG of course. But the information behind that is only in Thai? What is an alternative, current, reliable website?

Thank you for your submission.

I must say I was surprised to read some of the things. As for your questions:

1. Normally an “Under consideration” will be given for a period of 30 days. However, the “under consideration” period may also be given for a longer period, or even be repeated. The only restriction is that an “under consideration” period can never exceed 30 days after the already allowed period.

Given that your already allowed period runs until May 28, the “under consideration” period can run up to June 27, ie 30 days after the end of your current period of stay. So if you had been on May 27, it should have been ready on June 27.

A bit of a weird approach from that immigration office, but strictly speaking they don't do any traffic.

I never wrote it down like that when answering and always stuck to those 30 days. Maybe I should have been more clear on that too. It is the first time I read that the maximum period is used.

It is in the following document

ORDER OF THE IMMIGRATION BUREAU No. 327/2557 Subject: Criteria and Conditions for Consideration of an Alien's Application for aTemporary Stay in the Kingdom of Thailand

“3. During the period pending the consideration for granting an alien extension of stay in the Kingdom underClause 2 herein, said alien is allowed to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand while awaiting the results of the consideration. A permission to stay dining the waiting period shall be stamped as many times as necessary by the competent officers: however, the total period of stay shall not exceed thirty days from the following the date on which the permitted period has lapsed.”

2. No, that's not right. Nothing has changed for the “Marriage extension” yet. This is a rule they impose themselves.

3. The official website is that of Thai Immigration. www.immigration.go.th/

Unfortunately, there is indeed a lot in Thai, but there is also enough information in English.

It takes some getting used to, but under “Service” you can find some info www.immigration.go.th/content/service

But even with the info there, it's questionable what you'll get out of it if your own immigration office goes its own way.

  1. cleanse says up

Yesterday we went to immigration Nakhon Pathom for extension retired visa (Ben 75 yrs) after all the papers that must be submitted as standard, the (visa support letter was refused) You must first go to Chiang Wattana to legalize the letter at the min.foreign afffers in bangkok (had also brought the payment slip from the embassy) but that didn't help.
So I tried another way and told the immigration lady that I also had my bank book from Thailand with me, after looking at it that enough money had been transferred from Holland to this Thai bank, it was declared good.
immigration reported to me you can use this and then the letter is not necessary (waste of money and time) she could not tell me what will change next year (I was outside a new extension within 30 minutes
    in happy

    regards Rens
