Here is a short report on the annual extension of a visa based on retirement in Chiang Mai.

Arrived around 10am to a crowded waiting room. Too few parking spaces and no photographer or photocopier in the same building.

Unlike last year (the office moved from Promenada to a building near the airport in the summer of last year) you now get a number from the computer. A 90-day report (TM47) took about half an hour today, including waiting. Nothing unusual.

You can request the TM3 on the 30rd floor. Back in line for a year extension number (TM7). In total, the process of waiting and obtaining took 1,5 hours. I had a visa support letter with me. What has changed compared to last year? An official instead of a student checks and stamps the papers; I had to sign 2 extra forms and write on them “I understand”, one about the consequences of overstay and the other about what I can/cannot do with a retirement visa. After a photo was taken, I was allowed to wait again, probably because another officer still had to do the final check.

My experience with Chiang Mai has been excellent. Fast processing and friendly staff.

    well,

My experience for 90 days the same, downstairs next to "the number" no more copies, straight to the turn, no waiting. Really perfect.

I went to Immigration in Chiang Mai in October last year for an age based year extension (retirement visa). They had only just moved to the current location.
Everything went very smoothly then, waiting for my turn and handling all the paperwork took barely an hour and a half. When I got my passport back with the annual extension, I also took a multiple re-entry. This also went very quickly, within half an hour it was ready.
    A positive experience.
