MVV visa question: Moving to the Netherlands with my Thai wife

Dear editors,

I live in Thailand for 8 months and in the Netherlands for 4 months. I am married to a Thai woman in Thailand. I am 73 years old and my wife is 45 years old. Now I want to move to the Netherlands with my wife. She has followed the integration course and passed.

I have been informed that we must first go to the Foreign Office in Bangkok with translated information about her birth, her divorce papers and marriage certificate.

Then we have to go to the embassy in Bangkok, and there I find no information about an MVV visa,
I will then only receive information about the procedure to be followed at the IND in the Netherlands.

Do we first have to apply for a normal visa and then an MVV visa in the Netherlands?

Please advise, because then I may not need foreign affairs.

Regards,

Jacobus

Dear James,

The procedure for a Thai partner to come to the Netherlands for a long stay (immigration, longer than 3 months) runs through the IND. The Immigration & Naturalization Service makes the decision on the TEV (Entry & Residence) procedure. That can take as little as 3 months if things go wrong.

In the event of a positive decision by the IND, the Thai immigrant will collect the MVV visa sticker from the embassy in Bangkok. In the Netherlands, the VVR residence permit will be ready not much later.

More information in the “Immigration Thai partner” dossier in the menu on the left here on the blog:

Always check IND.nl and the embassy website for up-to-date information (including the applicable income requirement), because things can change 'suddenly'.

Success!

But first have all the papers (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.) translated. Translation office is opposite the embassy. Check in advance what you need.
    Success with it.
