Maria Berg (72) made a wish come true: she moved to Thailand in October 2012 and she has no regrets. Her family calls her an ADHD senior and she agrees. Maria worked as an animal caretaker, student nurse, animal ambulance driver, lady bartender, activity supervisor in day care and as a caretaker C in private home care. She wasn't very stable either, because she lived in Amsterdam, Maastricht, Belgium, Den Bosch, Drenthe and Groningen.

The moving bed

My bed is nothing special in itself. Only when I think I can sleep peacefully, that's a big mistake. Even if I am alone, I like to lie in a large bed, you can also lie diagonally without falling out.

The dogs totally agree. As soon as I'm lying on my bed, puppy Kwibus lies down at the foot of the bed, a little later mother Berta settles close to me. Regularly one of the two jumps off the bed again and after a while back on the bed. Since mother Berta also came into the house, my night's sleep has been bad, so an afternoon nap works wonders. Although that is not the case, I feel like I have a moving bed.

Surprise with my visa

That I got my visa, despite the lack of the departure card, I already knew that, I had already been called about that. The surprise was that when I got my passport back, there was a new card stapled in my passport, so no problem if I want to leave the country.

Stupid movie

When it rains heavily, like this week, all sorts of things happen. Usually the TV cuts out. After several attempts to get it back on, it works. In the middle of a very exciting horror movie, he called it quits again.

After 10 minutes I had a picture again. What a disappointment and it was just so exciting! 10 minutes is a lot in a movie, but well: the good thing about it is that you're dry and it's just a movie.

The rain stopped, finally a picture without interference. Now the disturbance comes from outside, frogs and toads are going so fast that nothing can be understood from the film. My movie has turned into a silent movie, that's for a laugh.

Beautiful animal

On the other side of the square where I live, there are three blue barrels where we can put our waste. So I do that every morning. On the outside of one of the barrels is a beautiful beetle. Quickly back into my house to get my camera. Luckily, when I get back, it's still there. Are you going to throw away your trash and see something so beautiful, my day started well again.

The wooden house

The beautiful wooden house, in the middle of nature, that I was able to rent, I'll give it up anyway, all those stairs don't appeal to me. A Dutch acquaintance with his Thai wife wanted to rent it. She contacted the owner. Yes, it was good, they were able to rent it from November 1, they were happy. This week I spoke to them, the move is canceled, the owner doesn't want to rent it out anyway. Now I'm really glad I gave up on it.

The parrot

Earlier I wrote that handicraft is and was one of my activities. I come from a family where people shouted: first try yourself and only then shout: I can't do that. Made my first skirt when I was ten and half a year later a blouse, where I accidentally cut two left sleeves. That only happens once in your life. Repairing your bike yourself was also normal. I've also made my own bed once, at a height of two meters, with a ladder leading up to it, with the linen cupboards underneath and it didn't wobble, I was very proud of that.

Painting and drawing, also one of my activities. I actually have too many hobbies to mention them, but now that I don't work anymore I also have the time to do it all. Well, everyone has a different taste and that's nice, otherwise we would all have the same things in and around the house.

I'm also one of those weird people who brought everything to Thailand, because I don't like everything. What's more, I have a lot of paintings and I really didn't want to lose them. Also cabinets with a history attached to them.

At someone's request I made a self-painted pillow, depicting a parrot. Asked all my friends for their opinion and then the nice thing is that the tastes are very different here too. A friend, whom I've known for 47 years, emailed me saying she thought they were horrible. That was a bit of a swallow, then I received one order after another and I'm busy painting.

In addition to the pillows, they were now also asked to make one as a tea cozy, for now I'm still busy with it.

Part 10 of Maria's Diary appeared on September 30.

Thank you Mary. This brightens up a very windy and wet autumn day in the Netherlands.
