Maria Berg sees an accident on her way back from a visit to Chatuchak weekend market. The next morning she is still silent about it. Drama with the dogs: Kwibus is hit by a car, house dog Lucky dies. And why does Maria feel that someone has slapped her in the nose?

I'm still silent about it

From Kamphaeng Saen at 10 o'clock in the morning with the whole tangle to the Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok. My grandchildren want birds. I had already prepared myself to see the most horrible things, but that was not too bad. Apart from the fact that many animals are offered for sale, which should live in freedom, it all looked reasonably well cared for. Dogs and cats were clean and not skinny; it was the same with the other animals.

My grandchildren chose four parakeets and four zebra finches. Furthermore, two beautiful wooden aviaries, food and drink bowls and bird baths plus food. The cages went on the car and we with the birds in it, back home.

At the market stood a large container of water under a tap. Suddenly a very large dog came up, stepped into the bowl of water, calmly lowered itself into it and sat there for at least 5 minutes. He got out and went on without shaking himself. Still smart of such a beast, wet he is less affected by the heat.

When we were about out of the center, I was horrified to see a man with a moped lying in the middle of the road. No one looked at it and no one stopped. Fortunately, my daughter-in-law called the police, who would take a look. It's now the next morning, I'm still speechless.

My son, who just two months ago was blamed for a collision with a drunk driver, when it was not his fault at all, said never interfere, as a foreigner you have always done it. So I'm still silent about that. A side of Thailand I will never understand.

I watched a nice American movie

It's unbelievable, but I have TV! Saturday they would come at 10 am, the TV man and my daughter-in-law. But that didn't happen, it was 16 pm in the afternoon. Within an hour the dish was on the eaves, the cable was laid and the TV was working. All this together cost two thousand baht. The subscription is 1.500 baht per month and I have more than a hundred channels for that. Well, the funny thing is that I didn't miss it much and now that I have it, it's very common that it's there. Watched a nice American movie on Saturday night.

Drama with the Dogs; didn't get much sleep

There are only seven houses on the lawn in front of my house. But anyone who lives further down the road should drive along this stretch of road if necessary. That is not necessary at all, rather there is a road to the next houses.

At 22 o'clock suddenly a loud scream of a dog. My nice neighbors and I ran outside, that was clearly Kwibus, the puppy of the outdoor dog Berta (both in the photo). He was nowhere to be found, but a great howl and it wouldn't stop. I could shout what I wanted, no one came, it made me sick. Didn't get much sleep.

In the middle of the night I heard beeping. I went to look. There was a completely muddy Kwibus, a pile of misery that was difficult to walk, but nothing damaged on the outside. He lay down on a big pillow and immediately fell asleep. Every now and then he whimpered, then it was quiet again.

In the morning, because my son could not leave his work, I called a taxi, the neighbor went with me to the veterinary clinic. It was a long wait there. Finally it was our turn. Pictures were taken of him. Surprisingly, it didn't break anything. Three injections, blood draw and five kinds of pills and we went home.

This happened from Friday to Saturday, it is now Monday and he is doing reasonably well. He also gets painkillers, occasionally he even wants to go into the garden to do something, we have to come back to the vet in five days. My nice neighbor's husband, much to my delight, went to the driver of the car and told him quite the truth. After our second visit to the vet, another week of pills. Everything is OK. He is not allowed to go outside after dark.

Lucky, the pet dog, didn't come home

Two days later, Lucky, the [black] domestic dog, did not come home. Called and searched, nothing. In the morning I found her across the street between some bushes, she was dead. One thinks of poison. We buried her there too. I miss her, I'm sorry that she had such a good time again.

The locomotive was changed

My grandchildren, who always go to everything by car, wanted to take the train. From the central station in Bangkok, through Bangkok to the north of the city. An old train, so that was extra fun. After a long time of driving, we stopped at a station, after half an hour we were still there. It was getting hotter on the train.

As it turned out, the locomotive was disconnected and it was waiting for the other locomotive. Everyone sat quietly, we then got out and drove back to the car with a taxi. I could already imagine that you are late for work in the Netherlands, with the story about changing the locomotive, no one would believe it.

The mango fell… full on my nose

The mango tree in my garden has an incredibly large amount of mangoes. The nice thing is, they ripen one after the other, a piece or two every day, which are then nice and yellow and ready to be eaten. Sometimes I can't reach them because they hang too high. With a long stick I tap the stem on which it hangs, then it falls down.

That went completely wrong this morning. I tapped the stem, the mango fell… full on my nose. It's now hours later and I still feel like someone gave me a big slap on the nose, so even picking mangoes is not without danger.

Earlier diaries of Maria Berg were published on November 28, December 29, January 23, February 20 and March 29.

What a sad but also beautiful story pfffttt you experience something in such a country… I live there myself.
Those mangoes are so delicious but there is an easier way to pick them, at the hardware store or perhaps at a sinkel store, as we call them, they have special shelters for fruits, I often see them in the Thais use, they are not made of plastic but of no kind of wood.

Maria I always enjoy your wonderful stories. This time it's sad to lose your house dog and hit the other dog. I also admire you very much for moving there. I look forward to your next story.

    Greetings Riet
