Thai feature film Pop Aye in Dutch cinemas
A heartwarming road movie is currently playing in a number of Dutch cinemas, set in Thailand. It is the feature debut of Singaporean director Kirsten Tan, who also wrote the screenplay.
A successful debut, given the many awards she won with it, including the VPRO Big Screen Award at the recent Rotterdam film festival.
Synopsis: The life of Thana from Bangkok is at a dead end: his career as an architect is not really going smoothly and his marriage also leaves much to be desired. One day he sees Pop Aye, an elephant he knows from his childhood, on the street. Without thinking twice, he decides to take the beloved animal to the village where he and the elephant grew up. Along the way they meet all kinds of special and colorful people, which eventually leads to Thana's life getting back on track.
In addition to actor Thaneth Warakulnukroh and elephant Bong, the beautifully filmed Thai landscape plays a leading role.

Classic, I think this film (unfortunately) is not shown in Thailand….
