Music from Thailand: I love you silly boy! - Little finger

The first Thai song I got to know was from an all-female band. The name of this band? Pink (พิงค์). The rock song, and maybe also those nice ladies, that I fell for was called “rák ná, dèk ngôo”. What was so special about that song? Watch and listen in.  

When I first met my girlfriend, we didn't speak each other's native language. And what could be more fun than teaching each other sweet, nice, dirty, or teasing words? Pretty soon I knew what “rák ná” meant: (I) love you. But to tease me a bit, I was 25, my love 28, she sometimes said “rák ná, dèk ngôo!”. She showed me the video clip of the said song and I tried as best, well say bad, as I could to repeat the words. This much to the hilarity of my dear. But what was the song about? No idea…

The number

The song literally translates to "I love you, silly child", say "I love you, crazy/weird boy, crazy". It's about, I think, a young lady teasingly letting her younger boyfriend know that all that gooey stuff in a relationship isn't necessary for her. But her boyfriend is quite emotional and constantly sweet talks about how fond he is of her, he blames his sweetheart that she is not so affectionate and maybe less fond of him than he is of her. The lady in question is certainly crazy about her boyfriend, but she is also a feisty and (young) adult lady who wants to let it be known that she is no longer a sugary teenager.

Will the song be about the experiences of one of the band members? Who was this band anyway? Pink/Phink (พิงค์) was a 6-member band that was active between 2002 and 2009. The ladies were all born between 1980 and 1984 and have all completed higher education in the creative sector (art, music, advertising) etc.). Their songs can be placed in the pop-rock or punk-rock direction. I myself am a rock enthusiast, especially hard rock and heavy metal, so I can certainly appreciate a bunch of tough ladies who let loose on drums and guitars.
