Corona poem for Thailand
A wave of corona poems is flowing through the Netherlands. The tiled wisdom, pointed sonnets and free verses provide comfort, guidance and hope. "It'll be fine!" This is how an article written by Geraldina Metselaar in the context of #NlblijftThuis begins on the website of today's Algemeen Dagblad.
I quote from that article: You read them on social media, in large letters on sidewalk tiles: it will be fine! In these bizarre, sometimes anxious, months, a warm stream of corona poems waves through our country. Because when you are thrown out of your normal routine so abruptly, you want nothing more than to regain control of your existence. If only everything was back to normal. It might become a bit normal by writing a poem. Isolating the current situation in the pattern of rhythmic rules provides something to hold on to.
Corona poem for Thailand
Corry and Ruud Louwerse processed their feelings for Thailand, the country they love so much, in the following English poem for their friends and acquaintances in this beautiful country, but also affected by the corona virus.
Thailand is now very far away, much further than before
Then we could just go there on a plane, but now no more
Now everything is locked in the beautiful country for you and me
You read it everywhere you see it on TV
“Everyone is in danger now and that's why we're not together
We hope that very soon the gate will reopen then we can go back to the nice weather
In winter on beach and in the sea, Wintering, yes we do participate
Let's hope everyone can stay healthy, here in the cold frog country and
Also there in the warm beautiful Thai country, but we have to wait
Have fun again soon and , you there and we here, have fun let's pray to our Buddha and God
Please help us make it nice friendly, healthy again and hot.
What will it be a party to see each other again, don't think about kissing
No, we shouldn't do that not in the beginning , maybe spring
Also no hug that cannot be done, but we have the Wai ( pay respect), as a good stand in
Sawadee, we love, we miss, we do,
Keep a good health for everyone, for me and for you.
We think a lot of you, you stay in our hearts ……..keep fingers crossed”
The power of poetry
From the aforementioned article I quote another nice observation: with a poem like the one above you can step out of your head for a while and you come closer to your heart. Powerful words are lifebuoys, so to speak, that you can hold on to in these turbulent times. Suddenly there are words for universal feelings such as happiness, sadness, loss and incomprehension, for which there were no words before.

Thank you for the beautiful poem.
We really hope that here in Thailand.
And in the rest of the world everyone will be healthy and safe again.
