'Only losers in Thailand'

March 20 2014

It is hoped that the emergency ordinance will expire on March 22. There have already been too many deaths and misery caused. The economy, especially in Bangkok, has suffered a huge loss.

Not only from large companies, but also small companies, such as street vendors, taxi drivers, etc. But also people who could not get to work in a decent way. This has taken too long to have any effect, only losers in this battle.

In mid-January, citizens of Kuwait and Oman were advised to return to their countries for security reasons. The United Arab Emirates has postponed travel to Thailand and moved it to a later date.

Hong Kong issued its highest alert on travel to Bangkok in mid-January. This put the capital on the same black list of conflict areas as Syria and Egypt. Japan followed suit by canceling all holiday trips to Thailand, said Anake Srishevahart, president of the Thai – Japanese Tourist Association.

Last year it was good for 1,4 million Japanese for a holiday stay of an average of five days. Despite this relatively short length of stay, it still accounts for a turnover of between 20.000 and 30.000 baht per person in Thailand. This negative coverage has an oil slick effect on other sectors. Singapore Airlines also reduced the number of flights to Thailand.

Major events were also cancelled. Thailand's $1 million international Golf Tournament has been canceled and moved to an unspecified date. With that, the start of this international event “One Asia” has fallen into the water. This tournament was scheduled from March 13 to 16 at Thana City Golf in Samut Prakan near the capital. Eric Clapton's concert on March 2 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok was also canceled to the disappointment of many.

In this political arena of one's own right and, above all, no loss of face, there are only losers.

The Emergency Ordinance will not be extended. This was decided by the cabinet on Tuesday. Lodewijk wrote this contribution when this decision had not yet been made.

There is a certain Mr. Suthep walking around, who lives in Lumpini Park and against whom three or four warrants are pending. Despite this, he is not put away.
That gentleman wants to realize his political ideas outside of parliament and elections. His hangers-on disappear automatically when he is put away. These are the same people who a few years ago were cheering for the PAD, against a government that included Suthep himself.
Chasing after political demonstrations is apparently popular entertainment in Thailand.

It's the sheep principle. Is there one over the dam . . . . Most demonstrators are not there because they know what it is about, but because they are either paid or because everyone is leaving the village. That is something else than lying at home alone in front of your cabin all day.
For the same reason why Mr. Suthep is not arrested, I do not have to pay the fine for driving through a red light (not paying attention), viz., corruption.

Speaking of the economy, I spent two days in Bangkok last week.
Among other things, for a new passport and a short visit to my stepson and a visit to the new Harley Davidson showroom and the new showroom of the new Indian and Victory big bikes.
Slept 2 nights in a renowned and large hotel near the center.
No worries, they were happy to have another customer.
When I arrived by train and then showered.
Then visited the large hotel restaurant for my dinner , I turned out to be the only guest .
A small band of 3 members spontaneously started playing when I entered .
I thought then , all this just for me .
Taxi and tuktuk are happy when they see you walking and they certainly want you as a customer.
    Also don't give a damn.
Yesterday I was on a bank in Lamphun due to extension of a deposit.
The manager said that interest rates in Thailand are lower than last year , which I noticed .
The cause, he said, is that the economy in Thailand is not too good at the moment.
People are spending a lot less , partly because of the uncertainties and the political unrest .
I thought then and she didn't speak, what do you think of the gigantic household debts that many Thai families have today, also with the thanks and support of the banks.
Who will pay for that , find a sweet little Gerrit .
Almost everyone around me rides a new motorcycle, especially the students.
    Latest Models.
And let's not forget the new pickup trucks with everything on and off.
    Who does what
Also on the train, both on the outward and return journey CMLMP / BKK, there is sufficient space.
Fortunately, there are still Dutch people and single young women from abroad who still dare to travel here in Thailand (most of the foreign passengers on the train).
You can certainly see that it is a lot less than in previous years.
I keep waiting , my time will come until the bubble bursts here too .

Let me tell you that I just this afternoon browsed the Internet to book a hotel in Bangkok for my birthday. Then you would like to spoil yourself+wife. A 5***** hotel in the center incl. breakfast for 2.290Bht. Then the famous (and best) LeBua State Dome 5***** for 4,200Bht. I can continue the list. Touristen Thailand is on its ass, and that's great. The same goes for the airliner. The stunts are coming?. You also saw it in and around the major Thai banks. Full of people all doing their . . savings came to collect for fear that the banks will also lie on their ass.

Perhaps that is partly the reason why the pilots of the German Lufthansa decided yesterday to go on strike for more money?. In the direction of Thailand it is just a little while, . . calmer?. If you want to book a ticket with that company now, you have to take into account that the flying party with the proud German -Kranich- (bird) will NOT take place.
