Jealous of youth

November 3 2017

Just back from my trip to the Philippines and Thailand, my girlfriend tells me that she is on Omroep Brabant saw a nice broadcast about Koh Phangan.

We both keep very fond memories of a trip from Bangkok by bus to Chumphon where we stayed for a few days and then boarded the boat to the tiny island of Koh Tao. It's been a decade or so, but some fond memories remain with both of us. After a few days we then took the boat to the equally beautiful island of Koh Phangan, which we remember with great pleasure. Briefly, we traveled on to Samui and from there to Suratthani and back to Bangkok by train. The TV broadcast in question aroused my girlfriend's desire to do that trip again. And.. of course I had to broadcast 'Brabant Worldwide 2017'but take a good look.

bloggers

Because I have been depositing my stories on Thailandblog since the very beginning of Thailandblog, I obviously know the names of regular writers. I regret to admit that I personally can count the publicists in question on the fingers of barely one hand. Of course, living in the Netherlands is partly to blame for this. After watching the TV broadcast of Omroep Brabant, I watched with great pleasure a lady, her husband, son and girlfriend whom I know by name from Thailand blog. Her name: Els van Wijlen.

TV broadcast

After watching the recording I now know that her husband 'de Kuuk' is simply called Jan Vos and I even found out that Els and Jan have a daughter in addition to their son Robin. Robin hooked up with his South Korean girlfriend Somi in Melbourne and together they operate a hip coffee shop on Koh Phangan where you can not only go for a good cup of coffee, but also for a good breakfast and lunch. Somi, Robin's girlfriend, designs clothes and nice handbags for sale in Bubba's, the name of their coffee shop. To be honest, I found out about this through the very nice report. Click the link below or google it Brabant Worldwide 2017 and on to Robin in Thailand then you will not only see 25-year-old Robin and his girlfriend plus parents, but also a beautiful part of Koh Phangan.

Youthful zest

After watching the 38-minute broadcast, I think back to my own young years. I have to admit that I am a little bit jealous of the possibilities that young people have nowadays. Robin met his girlfriend Somi in Australia. My granddaughter also worked in Melbourne for a year after completing her studies and while traveling the globe, young people gain a lot of experience, learn a language better through play and experience other cultures.

Shortly after World War II, yes I am that old, people looked with awe at people who spoke a few words of English. Something young people can't imagine nowadays. Now start babbling like an old man because my parents used to tell stories like this from the old box that I couldn't care less about. Robin and Somi live life and enjoy.

Perhaps after the beautiful Koh Phangan something completely different will come on your life path. Use your common sense and keep both feet on the ground. Wish you both all the best.

And for the readers: Koh Phangan is a beautiful island and not just for full moon party lovers. Twenty-nine days a month the moon shines for everyone and certainly the 30th and possibly 31th day. Let the youth go crazy for an evening and enjoy the moon and the sun plus a great cup of coffee at Bubba's.

Hello Jo, you may have missed it, but Els and her son Robin also pass by on Thailandblog. Els regularly writes a nice column.

Dear Khun Peter, you have not read correctly. Under the Bloggers subhead it says that I know the names of many bloggers, including Els's, but I know only a few personally.

You are right Joseph. I also need to learn how to read better, haha.

Nice piece, and to come back to your comment that few bloggers write. This is not always due to the bloggers, I write a piece every week on a different forum, which I already experience here. But live in Asia, but not in Thailand. So unfortunately can't contribute here 🙁
