Duncan Laurence from the Netherlands has this year's Eurovision Eurovision Song Contest won, congratulations! Have you watched and, like our king and queen, stayed up late for it? Well, not me!

I would like to stay up at night for a football match, but the time difference of 5 hours was too much for me to keep watching an endless row of singers from many European countries

Back in the days

In addition, the Eurovision Song Contest is no longer my Eurovision Song Contest. I must be careful not to be labeled a grumpy old man by saying that everything used to be better. But still, look again at old images of Teddy Scholten, Corrie Bokken and Lenny Kuhr, for example. Simple in design then, a complete orchestra led by Dolf van der Linden, of course, and singers, who sang a song in their own language with an exciting scoring afterwards.

Nu

A bombastic media spectacle in which no expense was spared to entertain a large audience with a series of artists who usually performed English songs in a long broadcast. The circus had already been preceded by a multitude of television broadcasts in which artists, supervisors and other experts gave their opinion and previewed the battle. The performances were surrounded by all kinds of tricks and electronic aids, so that the often (very) mediocre artists played many average songs that you would not listen to if it had not been about the Eurovision Song Contest. Duncan, it must be said, was a very positive exception and the deserved winner!

The broadcast

Of course I was quite interested and watched fragments of the show early this morning. In general, I couldn't care less and when I saw those scary talking dolls who acted as presenters, I quickly fast-forwarded. We don't need to talk about the performance of "superstar" Madonna anymore, she has already been criticized enough.

Thailand

Thailand was obviously not allowed to participate, but there is some good music coming from this country. I went looking for the Top 10 of Thailand this morning and came across Thararat's video clip below. I thought that was a beautiful, catchy song, which I think could easily have competed with quite a few songs from the Eurovision Song Contest. Tell yourself, or as a resident of Thailand am I biased?

Euro it is not, otherwise it would not be in Israel and Australia would not participate.
It certainly isn't vision at all... unless the glitz, glamor and technical digi-effects are what it is.
song? Yes, this year the winner brought another song. Thanks Netherlands. Finally another song… that was a long time ago.
Festival? A party? Yes, certainly for the happy few who queue up there … and a little for the fans. This year especially for the Dutch fans. Congratulations Netherlands. Nice song 🙂

Maybe then I'm an old sour. I think just like you. Don't be put off by it. It's definitely not a singing competition anymore. It's almost all about the show around it? I, hear the next day who won.

The only "fun" is giving the points. The least bad gets 12. Fortunately, the Netherlands still has Jan Smit to determine who sings out of tune or not. And who can know that better than the one who sings the most out of tune himself. With the thought: You catch thieves with thieves.

I wish I could sing as out of tune as Jan Smit.
According to the reports, he managed to accumulate a fortune of many millions of euros at the age of 33 and I wonder if Kees was also that smart.

If having a lot of money determines your quality, then you're probably right.

A good article with the right conclusions. A media spectacle for which I do not stay up.

    Dear Gringo,

Completely agree with you. In addition to Duncan, Australia was also very strong technically. But they do not have neighboring countries that vote for each other for political reasons. Unfortunately, it is not really about the singing qualities anymore, but much more about the message. Would also like to see it back to being more like it used to be. It is now 1 big charade with a very unfair scoring. I'm afraid it's only going to get worse.

    Regards,
    Robbert

Typical Dutch to use so many words about something you don't like. Often in the negative, because we usually dismiss positive things as “nice”. Everyone should know what my opinion is. Do you remember that song? I think, I think, yes you know what I think. What a speaker that man is. That's a man who can...

Yes, when I see who you mention here (Teddy Scholten, Corrie Brokken) etc. then we are back in the late 50's and 60's and we are not so young anymore. Those were indeed different times with much more simplicity and more class than what is being put on stage now, this has been a mega spectacle for years and is certainly no longer the pleasant Eurovision Song Contest where everyone was glued to the TV, each country had its own conductor. the orchestra and a personal jury, yes those were sweet times, hey we are getting old and may no longer be able to deal with this modern violence and acting, but let the youth do their thing, they are the future and everything will work out good with them. You know, we weren't always sweethearts in our younger years, rock and roll music wasn't our parents' favorite music either, leather vests and jeans were rebellious attire back then, and the movies weren't the example of virtue either. of our ancestors, And we could go on for hours about OUR time, but every time has its charm. Greetings from also a nostalgic lover. Peter And oh yes, congratulations to the Netherlands.

It's always nice to know that there are still people who are able to put things into perspective.

At that time there was not even the internet as we know it now and everyone could be kept nice and stupid. At the Eurovision Song Contest, the political friends you got the points from were certainly not as you might hope, only many did not even know how the world worked.

The Eurovision Song Contest is entertainment and has little to do with competition and reality. Entertainment is fake and the people of Thailand and the Dutch there should know that at some point, right?

Sometimes I am misled by the apparent time difference.
According to the BVN news at 20.00 p.m. tonight, May 19, the Song Festival will be held as a conclusion!
But apparently according to this posting Duncan Laurance won! Nice for him.

Or Da Endorphine, the best pop singer in Thailand.

Hi you are indeed biased. I didn't look either, but I've rarely heard such a non-flat and monotonous song. Unfortunately not for me to listen to.
    Your Blog is interesting.

  11. Ruud says up

I agree with a lot but when Teddy Scholten comes up we are talking about different times and they change when there is too much annoyance because you cannot adapt to the times
Just get out and you've had your time

I only knew from my cycling buddy since yesterday morning that the Eurovision Song Contest had been… I think I saw the last one in 1976… I always got it that one was held, but I'm not a fan of this music.
Then and now even more groups like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, or also the Cranberries… or take a look at the interpretation of Bad Wolves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XaS93WMRQQ the song zombies by the Cranberries… great and this interpretation Acappela, also great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQYtj8Uwybs
The song is certainly 25 years old, but still relevant…. You can't say that about many Eurovision songs…

The Eurovision Song Contest is a contest in which a large number of non-European countries also participate and an over-the-top event, especially popular with homosexuals.
The Champions League Final 2019 will be between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs who have not been champions in their own country in the last 30 years.
If the (extremely) rich (also gay and bi-sexual) Thais would invest their money in their own country, Thailand would win the Eurovision song contest in 2024 AND become world champion football in 2024. 100% sure.

    • l.low size says up

      Dear Chris,

I'm not gay, but it completely eludes me why the "song festival"
should be especially popular with this group. They're people, aren't they?

Or will the extravagant be linked to gays.

      • chris says up

I quote the Dutch and international press….

If Thailand is ever allowed to participate, it is better not to submit a morlam or that lucktung, because in my opinion they will certainly not get a lot of attention. 😉

  15. lap suit says up

Well, the Thai so-called competitive song shown here… to each his own, but for me it has nothing to do with singing either. I'm also biased to be honest because I think 95% of Thai music is really "bad".

  16. edu says up

You are indeed biased, this song belongs to the rest of the festival's dredging songs
