at the time

The sale and use of some products are slowly declining in the present day due to the emergence of new innovations.

One of the most well-known examples is the postage stamp, because correspondence is often done via email and a letter is only sent out sporadically by many of us. You rarely see video cameras on holiday and the photo camera is weighed down by the yoke of the mobile phone, with which young people in particular shoot quite a few pictures.

Even using it clock is subject to wear and tear because the mobile also indicates the time exactly.

Bangkok

Still, you come in Bangkok with great regularity against sellers who want to sell you another clock. Most of them are of Indian descent and the most exclusive brands are shown to you.

Years ago I bought a nice looking copy of the Patek Philippe brand. To be honest, I only came to realize much later that it is one of the most prestigious and expensive brands.

After a while the battery had given up the ghost, the jewel was stored in my desk drawer and my mobile functioned as a more than worthy substitute.

Thought it was a bad idea to go to a watch store with my fake Patekje, which is still in excellent condition. This time the gem was taken on a trip and had a new energy source installed in Bangkok for 80 baht, because fake brands are the most normal thing in the world there. And it must be said that the thing is running exactly again after many years of rest.

It can't be true

Sitting on a terrace, a very nice young man approaches me with a radiant smile and addresses me as if we had been good friends for years. Soon he conjures up a number of watches on the table. The jolly chap immediately sees that my gaze goes to a nice-looking Omega copy. “Special price for you sir, only 2.500 baht.” With voice and both hands I make my disinterest clear to him, because what the hell am I supposed to do with another thing like that. With a radiant look in his eyes, the question comes: “How much you give me?” To get rid of him I make an exorbitantly low offer; 500 baht.

His game goes on to 800, 700 and finally 600. Don't feel the need for another copy to put it in a desk drawer somewhere at home. And then: “Okay sir 500 baht.” A man a man, a word a word so I'm hanging on to my offer and now owns a no less exclusive Omega watch in addition to a unique Patek Philippe watch. I wonder where this stuff is made. And if I have to believe the mischievous young lad, the stuff comes from Taiwan.

Question marks

Don't you keep thinking how it is possible to produce such a product for such a low price? Converted into euros at the current exchange rate (35.16), the sales price is exactly € 14,22.

The lad has undoubtedly not sold it at a loss and it is more than likely that between manufacturer and seller there are at least one or even two intermediaries who also earn something from it. Rare how is this possible?

I don't know how they do it, and I don't care. I bought a Rado in Pattaya about 3 years ago from one of those sellers. He has known me for a long time and knows that I never pay more than 200 baht for a fake watch. So is this Rado. They can say that a watch from a certain country is better (read more expensive), but I have no understanding of it. I may have been a kiiniauw, but he sold it for 200 baht. A new battery has now been put in once and the clock is still running.

Bought a Breitling 2 years ago at the night market, Beautiful watch and you would swear it's a real one. Got a friend who collected the real one, with original box and couldn't believe it was a fake. Price 3.500 Bath but after a little negotiate 2.000 Bath or approx 52.60 euro. The seller was honest and on the movement there was a small sticker with Citizen movement. Go back in April for 30 days and I would buy a Patek Philipje or another good looking brand.

Joseph, as a world traveler you have already heard how quick thieves can steal a watch.
Of course this good Boy (what,s in a name) does not sell at a loss! Pure profit.

I once bought a Rolex ladies watch, which was 700 baht back then.
Was for a gift for an acquaintance of mine.
Not told it wasn't a genuine rolex.

After half a year she called me angrily,
that she had been disgraced at the pawnshop in Rotterdam.
and that he only wanted to give ten euros for it.
Yes I am correct, same price as I paid.

I haven't heard from her in years, but it was good for something.

Or maybe no intermediaries at all, but 'fell off the truck'

You are absolutely right, this is never profitable through the normal way.

There are 3 types of fake ore. A, AA and AAA. The A comes from China and all tin, after a few months they died. Then you have the AA and the AAA, both of which come from Taiwan. The AA usually contains a citizen, and the AAA usually has a casio. There is nothing wrong with that, only the diameter of both is slightly less than the real ones, in other words, a real glass will never fit in a fake. The AAA is expensive, few things have that, but these clocks also weigh a real one. Will recommend getting a steel strap, because sooner or later the gold plating will come off. So you buy an AAA with steel strap, clock for life, especially automatic. I'm not fond of leather straps, short longevity. The first thing you should pay attention to is whether there are screws in the tire and no split pins, then you are on the right track.

Does this apply to people too 😉

        Some have a screw loose!

How can I tell the difference between A-AA and AAA.?

I once bought a Breitling in Patong Beach, I don't remember the price, but after 3 months the hands were loose behind the glass.

Eddy from Ostend. The band must be reduced or enlarged using screws, which is at least AA, then the date must be very GOOD and clearly visible through the loupe glass. And seeing is difficult, You actually feel it better than seeing. At AAA you also get a minimum 1 year warranty. The one you see on bars is A, but if you ask for better quality, other bags will open and the AA will appear. They don't have the triple A, too expensive for purchase, in case of possible seizure.

Hi Eduard - thanks for the explanation. The strap is apparently very well imitated and the clasp already has the Breitling badges. Manufacture en Suisse en cuir veritable - will of course be different.
The seller is with his stall every week, so he must know what he is selling. In any case, thanks for the explanation and I will be back in Thailand from 29.04. Have had the watch since Nov. 2018 and have not had to replace a battery yet.

Hello, I also bought 2 watches in Bgk last year in early May, a Rado and a Rolex for 400 B each, they still work perfectly…
