Questioner: Francois

I am still registered in Belgium, but now wish to register at the Belgian embassy. To get the Model 8 I have to unsubscribe from my municipality in Belgium, however I don't want to fly back to Belgium just to unsubscribe. I presented this to the embassy, who told me that I can simply request the Model 8 by E-mail.

Is anyone aware of this, or know of another way to fix this?

Thank you in advance

It is indeed possible to receive the Model 8 via email, which you normally receive when you unsubscribe, but that is not a normal procedure as you will receive the Model 8 when you unsubscribe. Since you are NOT deregistered, you will not get it just like that.
You will therefore first have to deregister and it is therefore best to first contact the municipality/city, Population Service, where you are registered. Explain your situation and ask if they want/can unregister you without being present.
Immediately send a copy of your ID card stating that you will have it changed or renewed at the Belgian embassy in Bangkok AFTER registration at the embassy. The embassy will only do this if you are registered with them with the Model 8.

If you are not deregistered, they will also 'officially delete' you from the population register, with a possible fine as a result. Whether you will then receive a Model after rectification of matters is a question that only the relevant service can answer…. so ask.

I did that a year ago and with no problems. The municipal authorities know Model 8 and will send it to you, but you must state your address in Thailand with precision.

Dear François, indeed just request it by email, specifying the date and address on which you established your effective residence in Thailand.
Far preferable to an ex officio deletion for many reasons (for which the procedure has more than probably already been initiated).
The Population Registration services and the local Neighborhood Police Officer will be very happy to comply with your request because it saves them a pointless, time-consuming and labour-intensive procedure.
    Kind regards, Cor

    Dear,
At the beginning of July I deregistered from the Antwerp City Council.
Everything happened online, no moving to an office.
It is complicated, with an acquaintance, an official at the city council, it cost us two
    laptops.
You have to fill in everything.
The model 8 was sent to me by email a few days later.
I wish you good luck, but it is possible.
    Best regards,
    Pieter

Thank you for the responses that support my suspicion that it is possible to unsubscribe via email in Belgium. That is why I advised you to first contact the 'population department' of the municipality/city where you last lived.
However, I have not yet been able to find an 'official' report of this anywhere, but I appreciate the information from the responses.
